Burnley 1-3 Liverpool: Reds remain unbeaten
Liverpool continued their winning streak by coming from behind against Burnley to pick up a 3-1 win at Turf Moor earlier in the day. Jurgen Klopp made 7 changes to the starting line-up that faced Everton during the weekend, with a much-changed frontline that saw none of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino or Mohamed Salah start for the first time this season.
The Reds went down to an early Jack Cork goal in the second half through a set-piece that caused a confusion inside the six-yard box before the English midfielder ultimately slotted the ball into the back of the net. Liverpool struck back immediately through James Milner who was teed up nicely by the returning Divock Origi.
The Merseyside club then took control of the game after both Salah and Firmino were brought on as substitutes. The latter handed the Reds the lead just moments after coming on, scoring what would have probably been the easiest goal in his career. Swiss midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri then continued his impressive form this season with another stoppage time goal that saw Salah pick him out beautifully.
Naby Keita impressed on his return to the starting line-up and looked energetic all night. He was relentless in his running and almost found the back of the net if not for a stunning stop from Joe Hart in the second half. The only negative Klopp would have to take out of this match is the fact that centre-back Joe Gomez was stretchered off the field after a strong tackle from Ben Mee.
With Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United dropping points. Only Liverpool have kept the pressure on leaders Manchester City with a two-point gap separating both sides at the top. The Reds are also 6 points away from third-placed Tottenham Hotspur, who picked up an important win against Southampton.
Here’s how some Liverpool fans reacted to the result:
Naby Keita was absolutely boss.
Firmino back to his scoring ways.
Shaqiri fucking amazing.
VVD proving he is the best CB in PL.
Milner is just fantastic.
Up the Reds! 🔴🔴🔴

Naby Keita is head and shoulders above all our midfielders. Please play him every game from now on…

I think this might be the very first time Klopp called 3 brilliant substitutions in his entire Liverpool career, I mean Trent did a brilliant pass for the first goal, Bobby got the second, Salah assisted for the third. He had to take some credits for that, Juergen!

Keita immense! Now time to gel in Fabinho at DM so Hendo can take his “well-deserved” rest. #YNWA
