Two PL clubs who should sign this world-class out of contract star in the summer including Man United

Two Premier League clubs who should target Diego Godin

According to report in SER Chain, Atletico Madrid centre-back Diego Godin has rejected the first offer of contract renewal from the club. The Uruguayan could leave the Spanish capital by the end of this season.

The 32-year-old, who will turn 33 next month, rejected this offer partly because he will be 35 by the end of those terms. Henceforth, the defender is probably looking to play elsewhere for the final couple of years of his career. (SER Chain)

As per Sky Sports, Godin could join Italian side Inter Milan in the summer window, but nothing is finalised yet. Manchester United were targeting him when Jose Mourinho was the manager. Here are the two Premier League clubs who should sign the experienced defender in the summer:

Arsenal

The Gunners have made a good start to life under Unai Emery but it is clear that if they are to challenge for trophies in the future, the defence needs sorting. Sokratis Papastathopoulos was bought in the summer window, but injury to Rob Holding and poor performences from others mean that a new centre-back is badly required at the Emirates.

The game against Liverpool where they conceded five goals was a perfect example of how disjointed the back-line was. It has some effect on how Bernd Leno is performing as well, because the trust in defensive players isn’t there.

That being said, getting someone like Godin for free would be ideal for the team. The Uruguayan is a real leader at the back and a sturdy defender. Godin, alongside Sokratis and Holding, could form a good partnership in central defence for Arsenal next season.

Manchester United

As mentioned above, United were interested in the Uruguayan earlier. The Red Devils should reignite their interest and sign him if possible. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have improved massively in the attack but the defence still looks suspect.

If the Old Trafford outfit are to chase the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City in the league, they have to get someone like Godin and improve the central defence.

With all due respect, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and co. cannot be trusted to win a league title.
