Predicted Tottenham line-up to face Watford in the Premier League

Tottenham Hotspur will welcome Watford to the Wembley Stadium as Mauricio Pochettino hopes to get three points on Wednesday.

It’s been a dreadful few days for Tottenham as defeats to Chelsea and Crystal Palace have ended two cup runs. After exiting the Carabao Cup semi-final on penalties, Pochettino’s men were comprehensively beaten at Selhurst Park by Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Pochettino will expect a reaction from his boys against Watford, who come into Wednesday’s game on the back of a 2-0 FA Cup win at Newcastle United.

Team News

Son Heung-min has returned following South Korea’s elimination from the Asian Cup and is likely to be involved against Watford.

Meanwhile, Harry Kane and Dele Alli remain out injured. Ben Davies is a major doubt while Moussa Sissoko could return after suffering a minor injury in the League Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea.

Probable Tottenham XI

Formation: 4-1-2-1-2

Manager: Mauricio Pochettino

Hugo Lloris (GK)

Lloris is expected to return to the starting XI after sitting out of the FA Cup defeat to Crystal Palace.

Kieran Trippier (RB)

Trippier is expected to start this important game against Watford. He will look to put in a big performance at Wembley.

Toby Alderweireld (CB)

A rock at the back, Alderweireld will look to keep things tight and allow very little space for the Watford attackers to thrive.

Jan Vertonghen (LCB)

Partnering Alderweireld in central defence should be his compatriot, Vertonghen. The big Belgian will have to be at the top of his game if Spurs are to win.

Danny Rose (LB)

With Davies a major doubt and Kyle Walker-Peters starting on Sunday, we may see a rotation here with Rose getting the nod on Wednesday.

Eric Dier (CDM)

Dier will start at the base of the midfield diamond. The Englishman is better suited to playing this role, screening the backline and dictating the tempo of the game.

Moussa Sissoko

Moussa Sissoko (RCM)

Sissoko is likely to recover in time from the injury he sustained against Chelsea that kept him out of Sunday’s FA Cup game. His energy and work rate gives Tottenham a lot of thrust going forward.

Harry Winks (LCM)

Winks has become a regular fixture for Tottenham since injuries have crept in. The academy graduate has done well and deserves to keep his place in the team.

Christian Eriksen (CAM)

Eriksen will likely start at the tip of the midfield diamond. He is Spurs’ best creative player and will look to find pockets of space between the lines and terrorise the Watford defence.

Fernando Llorente (left)

Fernando Llorente (RS)

In Kane’s absence, Llorente has got his opportunities and while he has done well, the big Spaniard needs to start scoring goals as well.

Erik Lamela (LS)

Lamela could be the man to drift out wide to create space for Llorente to take the centre-stage.
