Despite missing out on a January loan swoop for top star, Arsenal must revive their interest in the summer again – agreed?

Why Arsenal should sign Ivan Perisic in the summer window

According to a report in BBC, Arsenal wanted to sign Inter Milan and Croatian winger Ivan Perisic on loan for the rest of this season during the January transfer window. Had the Gunners got their man, then they would have had an option of signing him on a permanent deal for a fee of around £35m.

Although the Italian club did reject the offer, the 29-year-old had put in a transfer request. However, the fact is that Arsenal somehow didn’t get the move done before the deadline. It was partly because of the fact that the club were restricted to only making loan moves due to their financial ability.

In another report in Telegraph, the north London club wanted a loan deal for Belgian international winger Yannick Carrasco as an alternative to Perisic. However, the club didn’t get that move done either. Here’s why the Gunners should go back to sign Perisic on a permanent deal in the summer.

Ivan Perisic

Arsenal need width and Perisic can provide that with aplomb

Looking at the Arsenal squad, they lack width in their attack. Only Alex Iwobi is the player who is counted as an out-and-out winger. The likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who we have seen playing in the wide areas, are not wingers by trade.

Hence, it is pretty clear that Unai Emery needs a winger in his squad to enhance the quality of his front-line. During his national team and club career at Inter Milan, Ivan Perisic has depicted that he possesses the qualities to be an ideal winger in this team.

The Croat has a delightful left foot, with which he delivers crosses into the box with accuracy and pace. He can play on either wing and keep the width out wide to stretch the opposition defence in possession.

Furthermore, the best thing about the 29-year-old is his ability to help the team out defensively. He can track back and double up with the full-backs.

All in all, Perisic looks like a perfect fit for this Arsenal team. His addition would allow Emery to play his favoured 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formation. The Gunners are currently sixth in the table, but are not far away from the top-four.
