21 goals, 11 assists – Everton would become a formidable attacking force by signing this 28-year-old goal machine

Everton opinion: Marega would be a brilliant fit for the Toffees

Back in August 2018, the Daily Mirror claimed Everton were interested in signing FC Porto striker Moussa Marega. However, a move didn’t come to fruition and the player stayed with Porto.

Marega, 28, has been a prolific goalscorer for Porto over the last couple of seasons. He netted 21 goals and supplied 11 assists in all competitions for the Portuguese club this past campaign.

The French-born Malian struggled upon first joining Porto, but exploded into life after being loaned out to Vitoria Guimaraes where he scored 14 goals in 31 appearances.

The 28-year-old’s fantastic form in Portugal must definitely prompt Everton into reigniting their interest in the centre-forward, who has entered the final year of his contract at Estadio do Dragao.

The Toffees are hunting for a new centre-forward following their struggles in front of goal last season.

Cenk Tosun has been a flop since arriving at the club from Besiktas in January 2018 and thus, cannot be relied upon.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin showed some promising signs while leading the attack in place of Tosun but he’s too young to shoulder the responsibility, week in and week out for the Merseysiders.

Marco Silva could do wonders with the signing of Moussa Marega. The 28-year-old has a fine record of for Porto, having represented the club at Champions League level in that time.

Goals aren’t the only thing the Mali international brings to the table, his vision, hold-up play and shrewd movement are something Everton could enjoy if they manage to bring him.

Marega is renowned for his pace, power and physicality, and would provide Everton with a focal point in the attack which they lacked throughout the last season.

He has the ability to link up the play between midfield and attack – something that the Toffees desperately need in the final third, what with so many creative midfielders at the club.

With his versatility, the Mali international could combine with the likes of Richarlison, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Bernard to devastating effect and help the club succeed in front of goal after last season’s struggles.

His hold-up play will help bring the best out of the Toffees’ attacks, whilst being a reliable goal threat and an upgrade on Tosun.

Verdict

Marega also seems to possess the physical attributes required to be a success in the English game.

That combined with his work-rate, clinical nature in front of goal and experience could be invaluable for Silva’s Everton, as they’ll hope to climb the table next season and perhaps try to break into that top six if the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea have underwhelming seasons.
