Who Is This 23-year Old Congolese International That Arsenal Are Planning To Sign – Everything You Need To Know

Arsenal have had a struggling start to the campaign, with just one point from possible 6. Opening weekend’s defeat against Liverpool was followed by a goalless draw against Champions Leicester City. The fans are starting to turn on Wenger very quickly. His inactivity in the transfer window last summer is still fresh in the minds of the supporters, however, with just one world class signing this summer, the pressure is completely on Wenger right now. He knows that one more season without the Premier League trophy could bring an end to his Arsenal reign. There is an urgent need to bring in a world class striker, who can take some of the goalscoring burden off Giroud’s shoulder.

The recent injury to Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista has left Wenger short of options in the central defensive region. Arsenal started with Chambers and summer signing Holding as the two centre backs against Liverpool. Koscielny did return to shore things up against Leicester but the inexperience of Holding was clearly visible, which burdened Koscielny even further. Gunners were heavily linked with a move for Shkodran Mustafi, however, Valencia recently confirmed that they will not be selling the German defender this summer. There was also talks of bringing in Johnny Evans but the £25m valuation of the player by West Brom is proving to be a stumbling block. Wenger is also keeping tabs on AS Monaco defender Marcel Tisserand. According to Daily Mirror, Arsenal have made enquiries with the French club regarding players availability.

The 23-year-old defender has found first-team action hard to come by at Monaco and spent last season on loan at Toulouse, where he made a total of 31 appearances, in which he also scored one goal. Tisserand  is a versatile defender who can play as a centre-back and also as a right back. A DR Congo international, Tisserand is excellent in the air due to his height and build but struggles to keep hold of the ball and then pass it. His versatility will be something Wenger will be interested in the most. It won’t be easy to get him, as clubs like Espanyol and France’s Saint-Etienne are both interest in acquiring his services this summer.

Having made his international debut in May this year, Tisserand is looking for more game time and since he has failed to establish himself as Leonardo Jardim’s preferred choice at the back, the time might be right for him to make a move. Arsenal will be a perfect platform for him to showcase his talent in front of millions of people. Last season, he won 61 out of 102 headed duels and 64 out of 115 tackles, which is pretty impressive but the fact that he made three defensive errors, one of which led to a goal, should also be kept in mind by Wenger before he commits to anything.
