3.6 tackles, 2.6 clearances – Arsenal signing this rising young Argentine talent would get them a perfect Bellerin back-up

Arsenal opinion: Why Arsenal should sign Fabricio Bustos?

After a horrific injury to Hector Bellerin, Arsenal are left with the 35-year old Stephan Lichtsteiner and Carl Jenkinson to fill in at right-back.

Although the duo has been pretty decent in recent games, the Gunners need a solid replacement to compete with or play as a backup to Bellerin when he returns from injury. Independiente’s Fabricio Bustos would be a perfect fit for Unai Emery’s side.

Fabricio Bustos is a 22-year old right-back who plays for Argentinian side Atletico Independiente. Having come through the ranks at the club, Bustos is now a mainstay in the squad and has played 17 times so far in the league this season.

Relatively unknown in Europe, Bustos has made a name for himself as one of the most promising full-backs in South America. The 22-year old possesses incredible pace and his brilliant dribbling skills make him an almost impossible player to stop.

His incredible work rate is incredible and he never seems to stop running. Bustos’ main asset is his brilliant runs into the opposition half before crossing into a dangerous area or cutting inside to get into the box.

Despite being an attack-minded full-back, Bustos is a solid defender. His pace helps him massively against tricky winners and his tackling is arguably the best in the league.

The Argentine has also been used on the right flank on a number of occasions and his dribbling skills allow him to fit in comfortably. Standing at just 5ft 5in, Bustos’ low centre of gravity helps him change direction swiftly and his fantastic ball control allows him to get out of tight situations with ease.

Bustos’ understanding of the game is brilliant and his positioning when under attack is flawless. His tackling ability is outstanding and he is incredibly strong for a small guy.

Bustos is very similar to Bellerin offensively but his defensive numbers blow Bellerin out of the water. The Argentine averages a staggering 3.6 tackles per game, 1.7 interceptions per game and 2.6 clearances per game.

Bustos also averages 1.7 dribbles per game, twice as much as Arsenal’s Spanish full-back.

Conclusion

Arsenal would be picking up a gem if they decide to move for Fabricio Bustos and he would provide massive competition to Hector Bellerin. His addition to the squad will cause a buzz in the fan base and he will surely become a fan favourite like fellow South American Lucas Torreira.
