Three Celtic Players To Watch Out For During The International Break

The international break is here. Players will turn up for their countries over the coming week, with some looking to seal a place in the squad the participation in the summer’s FIFA World Cup, while others whose teams have failed to qualify for the mega event will be hoping to make an impression on their managers and stake a claim for a regular place in the team.

Scottish champions Celtic too have a number of players that will be in action in the next few days and here we pick out three Hoops players to watch out for in the upcoming rounds of international friendlies.

Jack Hendry (Scotland)

The 22-year-old defender wasn’t a part of the original squad named by new Scotland manager Alex McLeish but following an injury to club teammate Kieran Tierney, Hendry was drafted in as a replacement.

Having joined Celtic from Dundee FC only in January, the 22-year-old has just played five times for the Hoops but has looked solid each time he has taken the field. Heralded as one of the most promising young centre-halves in the country, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see McLeish hand Hendry his first international cap in the coming few days.

Tom Rogic (Australia)

The 25-year old has been selected in the Australian squad that will be taking on Norway and Colombia. He will have an important role to play for the Socceroos.

Rogic, who has 33 caps for his country, has only come back from an injury and hadn’t been in that good form. But an important goal for Celtic in the 3-2 win over Rangers in the Glasgow Derby seems to have turned things around. So far this term, the 25-year-old has scored 5 and assisted 8 in 32 games. Rogic is expected to be an important player for the side during this summer’s World Cup in Russia and will be looking to put on a solid display in the friendlies.

James Forrest (Scotland)

The winger has been one of Celtic’s in-form players this season and has been on quite an impressive run, having scored 16 goals and assisted 6 in 49 appearances in all competitions over the course of the season.

A constant presence in the Celtic lineup under Brendan Rodgers, he will be hoping to make a strong impression on McLeish to establish himself as a regular in the international setup under the new manager. So far, the 26-year-old has made 21 appearances for the Scottish national team but he is yet to open his goalscoring account. He would be hoping to change that in the upcoming friendlies against Costa Rica and Hungary.
