3 Forgotten transfer targets that Crystal Palace could pursue again including £60,000-a-week Liverpool star

Having finished 11th in the Premier League this season, Crystal Palace are facing a massive summer transfer window before they take the field next season.

Roy Hodgson did a brilliant job after replacing Frank de Boer by not only guiding the Eagles to safety but also helping them finish in a respectable position after a calamitous start to the campaign.

Palace fans have a lot to be excited about for the upcoming season, as their team under Hodgson showed character and determination to defy the odds. But if Palace are to improve next term, they will definitely need strengthening.

While Hodgson will have already chalked up a few names to go for, revisiting past transfer targets could also help the veteran manager in building a strong team for the new season.

So, here are three players that were on the Eagles’ radar in the past that they should look to sign this summer.

Ibrahim Amadou (Lille)

Lille’s defensive midfielder Ibrahim Amadou failed to join Palace in the winter transfer window. The 25-year-old had travelled to London, agreed terms with Palace and passed a medical but Lille refused to sell him even though he tried to force a move through.

This summer transfer window could be the glaring opportunity for Palace to reignite their interest in Amadou. Strong, powerful and versatile, the Frenchman could be a fantastic addition to Palace’s ranks.

Taras Stepanenko (Shakhtar Donetsk)

Palace attempted a late move for Taras Stepanenko in the winter window of 2018 but they failed to reach an agreement with Shakhtar Donetsk. However, the summer transfer window could be the ideal time to intensify their interest in the defensive midfielder.

Stepanenko is a cultured defensive midfielder with top passing abilities. The Ukrainian functions with a lot of energy and is also a goal threat.

As Yohan Cabaye and James McCarthur have started ageing, the Shakhtar midfielder could be the ideal player to partner Luka Milivojevic at Palace next season. Stepanenko would add a lot of steel to the midfield alongside Milivojevic, thereby allowing the attackers to play their game freely.

Danny Ings (Liverpool)

Crystal Palace were interested in signing £60,000-a-week Liverpool striker Danny Ings on loan in January but the move didn’t materialise.

Since joining Liverpool from Burnley, Ings has hardly played due to his recurrent injury problems. The striker has been unfortunate, with injuries stalling his progress at Anfield. However, he played some games for the Reds in 2018 after attaining full fitness but it is not enough for Ings if he wishes to play for England again.

Hence, a move away from Anfield could be the best option for Ings. Palace, who would definitely need firepower next season, must a make move again for Ings this summer.
