3 goals and 1 assist – Celtic should target this 26-year-old speed demon to replace Moussa Dembele

Signing Moussa Konate would represent a massive coup for Celtic

Celtic booked their place in the finals of the Scottish League Cup by thrashing Hearts 3-0 on Sunday. It wasn’t a clinical performance but Brendan Rodgers’ men eased to the victory at Murrayfield Stadium.

The Hoops are slowly beginning to click as a unit after a slow start to the season. They are currently six points off the top, albeit with a game in hand. Rodgers will be truly delighted to see his team in the League Cup final, which will be played in the first week of December against Aberdeen.

But truth to be told, there are certain areas Celtic should try addressing in the winter transfer window. Celtic’s defence has been the main concern and one that has been time and again demonstrated in the Europa League.

Moussa Konate

Defeats at Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig were clear indicators that Celtic are defensively naïve and lack players who can take up responsibility and guide the team. The Bhoys’ feeble defence has been one of their biggest headaches this season and Rodgers must address it as soon as possible. But going forward, Celtic have rarely looked the team they were in the Premiership last season.

That could be down to the deadline day departure of Moussa Dembele to Lyon and Celtic’s failure to find a replacement before the start of the season. Without Dembele, Celtic have found scoring goals tough with Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths yet to deliver the goods consistently this season. Keeping that in mind, Rodgers must bring in a new striker in January to complement Edouard and Griffiths.

Amiens striker Moussa Konate could be an ideal fit at Parkhead. The Senegalese has scored three times and assisted once in 11 Ligue 1 outings for Amiens this season. His presence would not only be a massive boost to the forward line in terms of quality but would also bring the best out of the rest of the attackers.

Moussa Konate is not only a clinical finisher but is equally good at creating opportunities for his teammates. While he might not be the most technically gifted forward, he makes up for it with his superior work-rate. Blessed with good pace, the 26-year-old speed demon has the ability to beat the defenders with instant acceleration.

With the likes of Callum McGregor and James Forrest already in the team, Konate will receive perfect supply from the flanks. Hence, Celtic should not hesitate to splash the cash to land the Senegalese hit-man in January.
