3 goals and 16 assists last season – Celtic can land a real gem if they sign this 26-year-old Eredivisie star

Why Celtic must make a move for Brandley Kuwas in January

Brandley Kuwas is currently making waves in the Eredivisie with his dazzling displays in Heracles Almelo colours.

The 26-year-old is in the final year of his contract at Heracles and there is a good chance the Eredivisie club could look to cash in on him in January rather lose him for free next summer.

The Curacao international has notched up impressive numbers in the Eredivisie. He managed three goals and a staggering 16 assists in 33 appearances last season. Kuwas has started the 2018/19 season from where he left off the previous campaign, scoring two goals and supplying an assist in seven league games.

Looking at Kuwas’ red-hot form in the Dutch league, should Scottish giants Celtic make a January swoop for him?

Celtic have failed to produce much going forward this season and the departure of Moussa Dembele in the summer has affected the team massively. Dembele was a constant source of goals for Celtic ever since he joined them from Fulham and his exit has left a big hole in the attack.

The onus of scoring goals has chiefly fallen on the shoulders of Leigh Griffiths and Odsonne Edouard, Celtic’s only two recognised strikers. Griffiths and Edouard have not been able to score consistently, while the likes of Callum McGregor, Tom Rogic and James Forrest have been far from their best.

Truth be told, the Hoops have lacked a cutting edge in their attack and that’s where Kuwas’ acquisition would make sense.

Primarily a right winger, Kuwas loves to cut in on his left foot and punch a shot on goal. He has great dribbling skills, vision and creativity that would increase Celtic’s potency in the final third. What makes the Curacao international such a delightful player to watch is his raw pace and ability to pick out a pass from anywhere on the pitch.

Celtic clearly need someone who can run up and down the wing and also put in a good defensive shift. Kuwas might not be the most brilliant when it comes to defending but he can do a better job out wide and create things out of nothing.

Therefore, it makes sense for Rodgers to go after the winger as this move would reap benefits for the Hoops in the long run. Kuwas is definitely not the final product and has a lot of room for improvement. He might take some time to get used to the pace and physicality of the Scottish Premiership, but if he manages to adapt quickly, Celtic would have a gem of a player in their ranks.
