3 Ideal candidates to replace Benitez at Newcastle if the Spaniard decides to join West Ham

West Ham are reportedly planning to make a move for Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez. The club parted ways with Moyes on Wednesday. The Scot arrived in mid-November when West Ham were in a big mess, battling relegation and leaking goals at a high rate.

The Scotsman was appointed on a short-term basis with the objective of achieving Premier League safety and he did exactly that. After reinvigorating the squad, Moyes oversaw a stretch of poor results that saw West Ham flirt with relegation again before steering the London club to safety.

However, now that Moyes has left West Ham, the club are interested in hiring Benitez, who guided Newcastle to 10th place this season. The Spaniard helped the Magpies win the Championship last season and got them promoted back to the Premier League. All his good work was done on a shoestring budget that he received from the club.

It would be disastrous if Benitez leaves Newcastle for West Ham but if he does, here are three replacements the Toons can consider.

Sean Dyche

Sean Dyche should have won the Premier League manager of the season award. For the rip-roaring brand of football and becoming the first side in the Premier League to reach 100 points, Pep perhaps deserved the accolade.

However, one cannot ignore Dyche’s work at Burnley this season, guiding the club to Europa League playoffs. He instilled a winning mentality and built a team which was difficult to break.

Having built a solid Burnley team on a very low budget, Dyche deserves a lot of plaudits. A move to Newcastle could be a step in the right direction but with the Clarets due to play in Europe, it would be tough for the Magpies to lure Dyche.

Eddie Howe

A highly-rated young English manager, Eddie Howe has made his name at Bournemouth and has been long tipped to take a bigger job.

Howe has made the Cherries play an attacking brand of football in the top-flight. While it may be too early for him to expect an offer from a top-six club, the 40-year-old could test himself by taking the managerial position at Newcastle.

Surely, if Benitez decides to walk away from Newcastle, the Spaniard’s replacement will have a big task cut out. Howe, for all the good work he has done at Bournemouth, fits the bill perfectly at Tyneside.

Marco Silva

Newcastle fans would be crying their hearts out if Benitez leaves the club for West Ham but certainly, they could be pleased if Marco Silva replaces him.

Having impressed in his two spells in the Premier League so far, Silva could be ideal for Newcastle. But due to his acrimonious exit from Watford earlier this year, many might doubt his managerial credentials.

However, Silva is an astute tactician with an eye for small details. He has shown what he can do with lower-level sides and with his previous experience in the Premier League, the Portuguese is an ideal candidate to take over at Newcastle.
