Three Ideal Destinations For Tottenham Star Toby Alderweireld To Consider

Having missed three months of the season with a hamstring injury, Toby Alderweireld has failed to force his way back into the Tottenham team.

Alderweireld, one of the finest central defenders in the Premier League, was excluded from the Spurs side that lost 2-1 at the hands of the Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-finals last weekend.

While Mauricio Pochettino defended his team selection following the defeat to United, the £75,000-a-week Belgian defender’s future remains uncertain amidst a contract stand-off with Spurs.

Should Alderweireld decide to leave this summer, here are three ideal destinations for him.

Manchester United

Manchester United are one of the top clubs who have been linked with a summer move for Spurs defender Toby Alderweireld.

Alderweireld justifies the interest, thanks to a mix of brute force and technique. He is physically very strong and is rarely overpowered in the air or outpaced on the ground. The Belgian is capable of playing out from the back, unlike any of United’s current crop of central defenders.

Jose Mourinho has a plethora of central defenders at his disposal but none of them has been reliable this season. What United need is an intimidating presence at the back, and Alderweireld fits the bill perfectly.

Real Madrid

Real Madrid have also been credited with an interest in Alderweireld. The Los Blancos have underperformed in the league this season and definitely need a shake-up.

Alderweireld, one of the highly-rated centre-backs across Europe, would be a fantastic signing for them as he will not only solidify the back-line but also provide Zinedine Zidane with an option to play a back-three whenever required. Real’s regular participation in the Champions League should also attract Alderweireld.

Paris Saint-Germain

One of the wealthiest clubs in Europe, Paris Saint-Germain have the financial muscle to compete with the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United.

The French club have been a dominant force in their league but are yet to taste European success. The signing of Alderweireld would certainly boost their chances in the Champions League next season.

Thiago Silva is entering the twilight of his career and PSG are surprisingly light on resources at centre-back. They have never shied away from throwing money at their problems and Alderweireld would be a good fit at PSG.
