3 Ideal Premier League destinations for this German football hero including Liverpool and Tottenham

Three PL destinations for Mario Gotze if he decides to leave Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund attacker Mario Gotze has said that constant criticism is starting to affect his performances this season.

Gotze, 26, once hailed as one of world football’s most exciting talents, has been on a decline since scoring the winning goal for Germany in the 2014 World Cup final.

Having returned to Borussia Dortmund from Bayern Munich in 2016, the German has struggled to weave his magic due to persistent injuries and illnesses and has found it difficult to break into the first-team under four different coaches.

Following a poor individual display against Club Brugge in the Champions League last week, Gotze was axed from the squad against Hoffenheim on Saturday by coach Lucian Favre.

Gotze has not played a single minute in the Bundesliga this season and continues to remain out of favour under Favre. Should the German decide to leave Dortmund in January to revive his career, here are three Premier League destinations for him.

Liverpool

The most exciting of options for Gotze would be Liverpool due to his relationship with manager Jurgen Klopp. It was Klopp who promoted Gotze to Dortmund’s first-team and the duo shared a fantastic relationship in the Bundesliga.

Although it’s difficult to see where Gotze would fit in at Liverpool, the German playmaker should leave Dortmund in January to join Klopp’s forces in the Premier League.

The 26-year-old could add more firepower to the Reds’ attacking ranks and as it stands, Klopp could be the ideal man to revive Gotze’s career.

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur were the only Premier League club to not make a single signing in the summer transfer window. However, they could land a coup by signing Gotze from Dortmund in January.

Gotze would easily fit the Tottenham mould and he should not be too expensive. A move to Tottenham could see him earn first-team football again as he has plummeted down the pecking order under Favre this season.

A quadruple of Gotze, Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli could help Spurs mount a significant challenge for the top-four.

Newcastle United

Newcastle United were one of the five clubs to have registered an interest in signing Mario Gotze during the summer transfer window, according to the Mirror. While nothing materialised, Newcastle must reignite their interest in the diminutive midfielder in January.

The Magpies have struggled in the Premier League this season, with Rafael Benitez’s team lacking the creativity and flair to carve open the opposition. Gotze might just be the perfect solution for Newcastle.

Given Newcastle’s current predicament, a player of Gotze’s quality will add something different to the side and will give them a major boost in January.
