The race for a top 4 spot is getting increasingly interesting, with Manchester City now losing, the club is just 1 point ahead of Arsenal, so technically there are roughly 6 teams fighting it out to reach the Holy Grail which is the UEFA Champions League. One such club is Liverpool who returned to the Champions League this year but were unflattering and were rightly knocked out in the group stages.
Coming out of UCL has led to a change in fortunes for the Reds, who have been incredible post-January this season and are one of the form teams in Europe. Liverpool are chasing the top 4 spot, something which only seemed like a pipe dream a few weeks back.
They have most players in form and are giving more than 100% and their goalkeeper now seems to be the best in England and their defence is not conceding poor goals. Their attack still needs a bit of sharpness, but a week off from football would have helped them as they now go on a run which could make or break their 2nd half of the season.
If Liverpool are to ensure a route back into the Champions League they have some tough fixtures and here are 3 fixtures which they need to win to get back.
Vs. Man Utd (Home)
The turning point of the season for Liverpool was the reverse fixture against United at Old Trafford. Liverpool might have lost the game 3-0 but that was the match which got them working with their new 3-4-3 system and they have not looked back since then. There have been doubts about United’s ability now to qualify for the top 4 and Liverpool meeting United could hold the key to which team ends the season on top.
Vs. Arsenal (Away)
Another tough away game for the Reds, Arsenal are on fire and could even end the season in 2nd place as City keep slipping. Arsenal are direct rivals to Liverpool for the 4th spot in the Premier League and this match would be extremely crucial for Liverpool, if the Reds can somehow get 3 points at the Emirates, that would surely mean a top 4 finish for them.
Vs. Stoke (Away)
Liverpool play the final game of the season away at the Britannia, a stadium which is really tough to visit. Mark Hughes has made Stoke a tough team to beat and they do play some attractive football at times. The last day of the season could make or break the fortunes of the club and Liverpool will be hoping to win this game and end the season on a high, something which takes them back into Europe and brings an end to the season which promised so much but petered down to just a top 4 finish.
