Premier League opinion: Three clubs who should target Duvan Zapata
Italian news outlet Calciomercato has reported that Atalanta star Duvan Zapata has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League. The 28-year-old has been in incredible form this season and has managed to outscore nearly everyone in Italy.
That list includes Cristiano Ronaldo, Ciro Immobile, Dries Mertens and even Andrea Belotti, with only Fabio Quagliarella outdoing him by one goal. Zapata has managed to net 21 goals in the Serie A alone, with 26 goals and 7 assists in all competitions.
That being said, here are a few sides who should win the race for Duvan Zapata next summer
The Magpies have barely survived this season, with the arrival of Miguel Almiron in January adding a bit of hope and direct running into their squad. That has proven to be more than enough so far, but they’ve still struggled to score goals on a regular basis.
This season, Salomon Rondon and Ayoze Perez have managed to net 19 goals between them, which makes up for most of Newcastle’s total of 35 goals. However, the two have only just started scoring, with a majority of their goals coming after January.
It shows exactly where Duvan Zapata could come in and the 28-year-old would fit perfectly with Rafael Benitez. Like Rondon, the Colombian is a hard-worker for the team and is a big, fast and powerful striker that would suit the club. They’ve been linked with a move, according to the Chronicle Live.
West Ham United
West Ham need a reliable striker. Marko Arnautovic has proved to be unreliable and Javier Hernandez has failed to replicate the form that made the Hammers make the move in the first place.
Nothing has gone according to plan for manager Manuel Pellegrini, although their season hasn’t been all bad.
They need a new striker, especially with Arnautovic linked with a move to China in the past. That’s why they’ve been linked with a move for Duvan Zapata and the 28-year-old would be a brilliant addition (Calciomercato).
His powerful running and ability to hold up the play and run through defenses makes him the perfect man to replace Arnautovic. His mentality and physicality should be perfect for the Premier League.
This season barring Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson, few others in an Everton shirt have managed to match their exploits. Like Newcastle United, the two have combined together to score 52% of Everton’s goals this season.
Furthermore, their main strikers are Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Cenk Tosun. Yet, neither of them can really be relied upon, especially given their performance this season, with the two combining for just 8 goals.
The Toffees were linked with a move in the summer of 2017 (Liverpool Echo). The 28-year-old would help the Toffees greatly. With him in their side, Marco Silva and company would easily be battling for a top-six spot, let alone the top-seven.
