3 Potential Signings That Will Make Liverpool A Balanced Side

Jurgen Klopp has completed 4 major signings already and “Klopp’s team” is taking shape. Last season, Liverpool’s squad was not balanced. In some matches, the defense looked strong but the attack was toothless while in some, the attack looked strong but the defense was shaky. If Liverpool want to become title challengers, they need a more balanced side. The signing of Matip has bolstered Liverpool’s defense and Sadio Mane has boosted the attacking midfield. Yet the team is not completely balanced and 3-4 more signings will add stability to the squad. Here are 3 signings hat will make Liverpool a more balanced squad.

  • Gonzalo Higuain

Liverpool’s striker problems were persistent last season. Injuries and inconsistency had plagued almost every Liverpool striker. Liverpool need a striker who can score 20 goals at least in one season. And Gonzalo Higuain is just the perfect option. The Argentine has come off a record breaking season for Napoli in the Serie A, scoring 37 goals in 36 appearances. Higuain is a deadly striker and his experience in the Champions League will help Liverpool. Almost every team that challenges for the top-4 has a striker who can score 19-20 goals and Liverpool do not have one. Sturridge is capable of doing that but his injuries have hampered his progress. Also, Higuain has expressed his desire of playing under Klopp and Klopp should fulfill the Argentine’s desire.

  • Jonas Hector

Liverpool have been linked with a lot of left-backs throughout the summer. Alberto Moreno was the left back last season but his defensive displays were not upto the mark. Attackingly, Moreno was very good, playing short passes and taking shots on target from distance. But he left huge gaps for opposition players to exploit and Liverpool cannot afford that. Hector had a very good season at FC Koln and he has carried that impressive form to the EUROs. Hector is better defensively and his runs down the flanks are also impressive. Signing him will balance Liverpool’s defense and team as well.

  • Neven Subotic

Another position where Liverpool need a new signing is centre back. Though Liverpool have signed Joel Matip, they have only 3 proper centre backs due to Kolo Toure’s departure. Also, Mammadou Sakho’s doping ban is still unclear and that makes Lovren and Matip as the only centre backs that Klopp has. Subotic was with Klopp during Klopp’s time at Borussia Dortmund and he was quite impressive. Last season though, Subotic made only 6 appearances for Dortmund and he seems to be unhappy at the game time he is being offered at Dortmund. Subotic’s height gives him an edge over other players during dead ball situations. Also his tackle timing is quite good and having him in the squad will bolster Liverpool’s defense.
