3 Potential Summer Arrivals Who’d Add Quality To The Rangers Squad

Frankly, numbers are never going to be a problem for Rangers who will always have a depth of players coming through the ranks alongside a whole host of experienced types who see it as an honour to play for the club.

The prevalent issue these days for them, and for the Scottish Premiership as a whole, is the matter of quality or more to the point; a lack of it.

After a busy winter transfer window overseen by Graeme Murty, the club signed Greg Docherty, Jason Cummings, Jamie Murphy, Sean Goss and Russell Martin and they were also disappointed to miss out on young Swansea striker Oli McBurnie.

Yet things will change again in the summer. Here are three potential signings that would once more move Rangers in the right direction:

Scott Arfield (Burnley)

Livingston born Arfield is yet to sign a new deal with the Clarets and perhaps now wishes to play closer to ‘home’, making Rangers a very attractive proposition for him indeed.

Assuming the Glasgow giants can afford whatever salary Arfield commands these days, he would fit into this squad no problem and would add a touch of Premier League quality to the group.

He is out of contract at the end of the season and would come for free, something surely of interest to those in charge of the funds at Ibrox.

Jordan Jones (Kilmarnock)

Rangers had a £500,000 bid turned down last week and were told to up their game with Kilmarnock determined to hold on to the 23-year-old Northern Irish international but could now face pressure from the player himself with either move being a step up for him.

Jones has 18 months left on his contract but that essentially means that after this particular window slams shut, his transfer value begins to creep downwards so Kilmarnock should probably have cashed-in.

It seems Rangers will want to go back in this summer with a fresh bid for a player getting better all the time.

Sammy Ameobi (Bolton Wanderers)

The winger/forward has thrived in tough circumstances at Bolton this season and, according to the average ratings on Whoscored.com, he is currently in the top ten players in the English Championship.

The former Newcastle man has also hit four goals in 18 starts for Bolton in the league, this for a side struggling badly to score goals and stay in the division.

Ameobi, although sometimes criticised, certainly did a job for Newcastle United at Premier League level and has the sort of ability which would stand him apart in Scottish football. He would make a very shrewd signing indeed.
