Three Premier League Players Who Celtic Should Target

It’s expected to be a very busy summer at Celtic with manager Brendan Rodgers desperately hoping to add to his unbeaten domestic squad, as well as hoping to fend off bids for Stuart Armstrong, Moussa Dembele and Jozo Simunovic.

The one departure he may be able to do very little about is Scotland’s young player of the year Kieran Tierney, with Premier League teams watching the young left-back for months. Sales are the last thing Rodgers would want to concentrate on, as strengthening the squad is needed in order to improve their Champions League form. Here we look at 3 Premier League players Celtic could go for in the coming months.

Fabio Borini (Sunderland)

Although now out of the Premier League, the former Liverpool striker is still under contract at recently relegated Sunderland and so a reasonable fee would be needed to secure his services. Sunderland’s finances are in a dire way with over £100million in debt and they are sure to sell off some of their assets over the next few months.

Borini, though not as good as Dembele, would be a better option in the Champions League than Leigh Griffiths and could add the extra bit of quality needed in those European matches.

Viktor Fischer (Middlesbrough)

Now relegated out of the top division, Fischer was plying his trade in the Premier League with Middlesbrough and has top tier quality. Fischer only appeared 13 times (6 starts) for Boro in the Premier League last season without managing to score and that was only due to lack of opportunities.

The Dane moved to Middlesbrough from Ajax last summer but failed to fire in England. Clubs in the Netherlands are keen to take him back to the Eredivisie, but he appears to fit the bill as far as Brendan Rodgers is concerned and so Celtic should try and target Fischer.

Lucas Leiva (Liverpool)

The 30-year-old Brazilian has spent ten years at Liverpool, including some time with Brendan Rodgers and may well find his time is up on Merseyside under Jurgen Klopp.  Celtic, if offered the player, could not afford to turn down the chance to bring on board this level of quality and Leiva is certainly someone who would be comfortable in the Champions League.

Assuming Celtic could afford his wages, Lucas would be an excellent addition to the Celtic midfield.
