3 Quality players Wigan could sign to win back to back promotions including £6.5m attacker

It was an excellent season for Wigan and they bounced back to the Championship at the first opportunity, winning over half of their league fixtures in the process and only losing six games all season!

But what do Wigan fans have to look forward to next season? The team looked unbeatable at times in League One and walked it but can they continue to compete at this high standard and really push on in the Championship as well?

Here are three players that they should sign if they are really serious about challenging for promotion again this season, thereby getting back into the Premier League.

Jamal Blackman

Christian Walton had a good season in goal for Wigan last term but they have to look for a new goalkeeper, with the custodian returning to his parent club Brighton & Hove Albion. One option they could look at is Chelsea goalkeeper Jamal Blackman, who had an excellent season between the sticks for Sheffield United in the Championship.

Jamal Blackman

He is not likely to get first-team opportunities at Chelsea and will, therefore, most likely be looking for another loan spell out of Stamford Bridge, and Wigan should be at the front of the queue for this talented shot-stopper.

Aiden McGeady

The attacking midfielder, who was relegated from the Championship with Sunderland, may well be looking for a way to continue playing in the second tier of English football.

He did not have the best of campaigns but still managed 7 goals and 5 assists in 35 league games for the Black Cats, which is still a good return for a winger.

Aiden McGeady

He has proven that he can perform consistently at the Championship level with Preston as well, and could be a good option for Wigan as he provides experience, which is vital in this league.

Jack Marriott

Marriott was the top-scorer in League One, bagging 27 goals for Peterborough, and the Latics will remember him well for scoring a 90th-minute winner which contributed to one of their six losses last season.

Jack Marriott

He will be much sought after this summer by several Championship clubs but if Wigan want a striker who is guaranteed to score goals for them, then Marriott may well be their man.

If reports are to be believed, he will only cost around £6.5m, which could be an absolute bargain if he manages to continue his goal-scoring feat in Championship.
