3 Reasons Why Tottenham Should Sign This 21-year Old PSG Star

Tottenham continued their charge for the Premier League crown but that does seem a destination which won’t be Spurs’ coming to the end of the season. Tottenham might have won against Manchester United and handsomely but Leicester are doing their bit as well.

Spurs though could be playing in the Champions League next season, it only is a matter of time before they make it official and that would mean some more investment in the side as we have seen Spurs struggle in some of the decompositions whine it comes to suspensions and injuries.

One of the biggest misses was that of Jan Vertonghen, the Belgian only recently made it back to the team after a three-month injury layoff and well Tottenham need to be sure that this does not happen again.

Spurs did have an able replacement in Kevin Wimmer but what if he or Toby Alderweireld were to get injured? The London side though seems to be lining up a move for one of the big players in the French league.

Marquinhos hasn’t been playing all too regularly for PSG this season with the side preferring a central partnership of David Luiz and Thiago Silva. PSG did let go of Mamadou Sakho to Liverpool a few years ago and this could well happen with Marquinhos as well.

Tottenham though should try to sign the defender at all costs and here are three reasons why they should get the 21-year-old.

A good backup to Vertonghen and Alderweireld

Marquinhos would certainly get into any top side in Europe and the same thing would take place should he come to Tottenham or would it? Spurs have one of the best centre-back partnerships in Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld and they should not think about breaking that up.

What the Brazilian Marquinhos could do is play in the games where Vertonghen or Alderweireld rest or even make a dash for the final position in the starting XI. Marquinhos would give Spurs more quality in defence and an option as well.

Age on his side

At just 21-years of age, Marquinhos still has a lot of time to grow and develop into the player that he could be. He has the potential to become one of the best and well under Laurent Blanc, that might not happen.

Mauricio Pochettino is someone who has made players better, especially this season and the Brazilian defender could well be someone who could get better should he shift his base away from France. Granted he will end up winning more silverware at PSG than say Tottenham but he can grow into a world class defender in London.

A different dimension

While Kevin Wimmer and Toby Alderweireld are the typical tough central defenders in the Tottenham team, Jan Vertonghen does provide a more nuanced approach thanks to his passing and calmness on the ball.

That is exactly the kind of player Marquinhos is also, he is extremely comfortable on the ball and can make it look rather easy as he launches an attack from the heart of the defence. The 21-year-old certainly knows how to keep the ball ticking and isn’t fazed when he is under pressure from the opposition, certainly it is worth to have a cool head in the back four and Marquinhos moving to Tottenham would be a win-win for all.

The price, however, could be something of a different matter altogether.
