Yohan Cabaye is set for a move away from PSG after just a year with the French champions; a lack of game time has seen the French midfielder because of the wealth of talent at PSG. Verratti, Motta, Pastore, Matuidi and the rising star Adrien Rabiot lead the competition for the midfield slots at PSG.
The 28 year old midfielder is expected to make his way back across the channel and to play for a team in the Premier League, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United are the 3 clubs touted to want the Frenchman with Arsenal leading the chase for the 28 year old.
Here are 3 reasons why Arsenal should not sign the Frenchman.
Bigger problems at Arsenal
Arsene Wenger and Arsenal need to have a bit of steel in midfield, something that they have been lacking since Patrick Vieira left the club. Fans have been baying for some steel in the midfield which is often played out in games, especially in the last 2-3 seasons. The same can be said about the defense, they already have a decent attack but the lack of a true defensive midfielder in the Arsenal team has been one of the major problems which have not been rectified for quite a long time.
There are a lot of good defensive midfielders in the market who could be brought in for the same money as Yohan Cabaye , Arsenal need a midfielder but not another creative or holding midfielder but rather a strong destroyer who can snuff out attacks, Cabaye isn’t that kind of midfielder.
A lot of competition for a couple of spots
Arsenal have a lot of midfielders currently and do not need another creative midfielder or box to box midfielder in the team like a Cabaye, as stated above they need someone who is a destroyer and will shield the defense willing to snuff out attacks
Arsenal already have the likes of Arteta, Wilshere, Ramsey, Rosicky and Flamini. Cabaye would be facing a similar situation that he had at PSG; with this Arsenal team also have a lot of quality for a couple of positions.
Arsenal do not need to bring in the Frenchman into their team which is already blessed with a lot of talent in the position, it wouldn’t help either Cabaye or Arsenal in the long run.
Can Cabaye find his touch?
Cabaye was exceptional during his time in Newcastle and was one of their best players, especially in his final season for the club, his time at PSG has not gone as well as he would have liked. He has seem fewer games than expected but even when he has played for the Parisian outfit, he has flattered to deceive and does not look like the star signing that he was made out to be.
He has struggled for form in the PSG side and has only featured in 10 games for the club this season, this including appearances in the Champions League and Ligue 1. Signing the Frenchman for £20 million would probably be seen as a risk, when that money can be invested in strengthening another position.
