The striker on fire at this point of the season, Christian Benteke scored yet another goal, making it 8 in his last 6 games as he helped Aston Villa reach the final of the FA Cup for the first time in 15 years. The burly Belgian scored the equalizer against Liverpool and has been the reason for Villa’s revival in the second half of the season after having a rather poor start. Tim Sherwood might have been able to unlock the potential in the Belgian once again and with him being only 24-years-old, he could be willing to make a move to a big club.
Manchester United have been in the need of a striker all season, with Falcao and Van Persie not cutting it at United. According to the reports, United are set to swoop for the In-form Aston Villa forward Benteke. We provide 3 reasons why Benteke would be a great fit for Manchester United.
Belgian Beast! Strong & built like an ox
Benteke is probably one of the strongest centre forwards in the game, which is a bit of a rarity these days. Most strikers are strong, but they have a certain guile about them as well, look at Suarez, Messi, Neymar, Benzema to name a few. Benteke is built to win headers and with Manchester United having a penchant for crossing the ball into the box, Benteke could feast on a ton of goals thanks to his heading ability and aerial prowess. Benteke has great movement in the box as well, so he would be lethal in front of goal and probably smash in a lot of headers for United.
Is a good finisher
Again something not associated with a big game, Benteke can actually score some rather pretty goals. He isn’t just about brute strength and can finish well, similar to the goal he scored against Liverpool in the FA Cup semi. His movement helped him get into a great position and then he was able to tuck in a zipped cross, proving he isn’t just about the heading. Manchester United have needed someone who can finish as well as Van Persie or Van Nistelrooy over the years and maybe Benteke, with a little bit of work could be the player that they have wanted.
Premier League experience
Benteke has now been at Villa for a good part of 3 years, he was signed from Genk in 2012 and has slowly become one of the better strikers in the league. Prior to his injury, it was a guarantee that he would be going to the World Cup and could have been playing for a bigger club this season. He has shown that the injury is a thing of the past and with so much Premier League experience under his belt, he could be the striker that Manchester United need. He wouldn’t need time to acclimatize to the league or the pace of it and he could be the missing link in the forward line-up for Manchester United.
