Another Saints player, another big club wanting to sign him, Nathaniel Clyne has become the latest player from Southampton to be linked with a move away from St. Mary’s and this time as was the case last year a big club has decided to put in a bid for the 23 year old English right back. Clyne is being linked with a move to Manchester United, who have been in the transfer window for quite a while for a few players.
Although the player linked with the club might raise a few eyebrows but Clyne has been one of the best players from Southampton this season and Koeman has been able to get the best out of the right back this season and will be hoping to keep the player for longer at Southampton. If Manchester United do sign the talented right back, it would be a great move for both him and the club and here are 3 reasons why.
Cheap and young
Clyne is only 23 years old and is already considered as one of the best young players in the league. He has become a staple at the Saints back four and provides them with not only good defensive options but with also a lot of attacking options.
Clyne would be available for around £7 million which would be a bargain considering that he can still grow into a better player and is English. Normally English player values are inflated but Clyne is well worth the amount that is being quoted, of course United might have to pay a little extra but that is something Louis Van Gaal shouldn’t worry about.
No better options at United
If we look at the wing back options or right back options at United, there really isn’t a lot of good talent there. Earlier in the season there was talk about replacing Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Jonny Evans and United need to do that for their wing backs as well.
United have played Ashley Young, Adnan Januzaj and Antonio Valencia at the positions but apart from Valencia no one else is really that adept at playing in at position. Clyne would be suited really well for the role at Manchester United and since he is a player who loves to go forward even when he is playing as a right back, he would fit in perfectly in the ethos of Manchester United.
The right club for Clyne’s development
Manchester United have had a history of dealing with young talent and developing them well, the likes of Rooney, Jones, Carrick and Young are all testament to that. Clyne would not only be playing with some of the best players in the World but in a coach like Louis Van Gaal, he would be getting to learn and grow as an individual.
Louis Van Gaal has shown that he will give youth a chance in case things aren’t up to the mark from the senior players and Clyne would certainly be a player who would take his chance really well. The only question is, are Southampton willing to sell another star so quickly?
