While Liverpool do have a pretty good squad at the moment, the one thing which is missing from the team is a good winger. They have tried to play Raheem Sterling, Adam Lallana and Lazar Markovic down the wings, but that has not provided much joy for the Liverpool team this season. Sure, they have found a new formation which uses wing backs more than wingers but again, the lack of a decent winger, someone who is willing to take on a defender and get crosses in is missing from the Reds side.
Rumours have been floating around of Andriy Yarmolenko being linked with a move to Liverpool. The Dynamo Kyiv attacker has been exceptional for the Ukrainian club and was on target as his club despatched Everton in the Europa League. While the price tag might be a little steep, Yarmolenko would be a brilliant signing for the Reds and here are 3 reasons why.
An out and out winger
While Yarmolenko can play as a striker or a secondary striker, his best position is playing out on the wing. The Ukrainian forward is known for his ability to run at defences and take players one, something which has been missing from the Liverpool squad and at 25 years of age, he is ready to make a step up from the Ukrainian league to a bigger challenge which is the Premier League.
Yarmolenko has spent his entire life at Kyiv and the winger would be a worthy addition to any side, especially an attacking one like Liverpool.
A regular goalscorer
Something which is a rarity in football is a goal scoring winger, Yarmolenko bucks that trend as he has been a regular goal scorer for his club. The attacker has regularly found the net and in the past 2 seasons averages a goal every other game, which is a great statistic, unless you count in Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Liverpool need more options when it comes to scoring goals, they cannot rely on one player like they did with Luis Suarez last season, that did not help them out this season. They need to take some of the pressure off Daniel Sturridge and company. Andriy Yarmolenko surely can help in that aspect of the game.
He fits Liverpool’s style of play
Liverpool have found this more dynamic and free flowing formation which gives a lot of freedom to the attacking players. This is something that would please Yarmolenko if he is to join the club. He wouldn’t be shackled by having to play just one position and since Rodgers is always on the lookout for players who can play in various positions, Yarmolenko could be the perfect fit for the club thanks to his pace and ingenuity.
