Mauricio Pochettino’s Premier League season became all more difficult this weekend as just a few days after being knocked out of the Champions League, they fell to their first defeat in the domestic league on their short trip the Stamford Bridge. Christian Erikson gave them an early lead but Spurs were just not good enough on the night as the Blues ran away with all three points to stay top of the Premier League table. Though it is just their first loss this season, Spurs have had some troubles recently with injuries to players and key players losing some form. There have been a number of players who have not lived up to their quality and here are three players who have under-performed for the team in the Premier League this season:
Christian Eriksen:
The 24-year old Danish international is responsible for the creative duties of the side on the wing for Spurs. However, with just 3 goals and 3 assists in close to 1500 minutes in all competitions this season, he has been less than impressive in front of goal. He is a skilled player who has the ability to win games on his own but he has gone many games without having any kind of an impact making life tough for the team. He is the first choice for Pochettino this season and has to be better with his game if Spurs are to stand a shot at a place in the starting XI. Surely, he has been one of the most disappointing players for the side this season.
Dele Alli:
The English international is one of the most versatile players in the Premier League and he has been playing in a free-flowing role for the side this season. He is the link between the midfield and the attack for the side and his inefficiency in doing this has affected the chances of the side on more than one occasion. He is a superb player who is integral to Pochettino’s style of play but he has looked off his colours early this season and it has had its effect on the entire squad. He has just 3 goals and 2 assists in 17 games in all competitions this season and should improve on his contributions if the side are to challenge the best teams in the competition.
Vincent Janssen:
The only attacking buy for Spurs in the summer, Janssen has been a real disappointment early this season. Making his debut in the league this season, the Dutch international is expected to take his time to settle into the new team but the lack of contributions in the chances he has got this season is what gets him into this list. He also has 3 goals and has 2 assists to his name this season in 20 games in all competitions and has not been able to take up the goalscoring responsibilities of the side. He is far from the first choice for Pocehttino this season and it is the high time to start to contribute in front of goal to keep Spurs in the hunt at the top of the Premier League table.
