Three Transfers Brighton Are Expected To Complete In The Summer

Although they would be incredibly disappointed to have lost the Championship title on the last day of the season to Newcastle United, Brighton must look back on their season as a major success.

Top level football has been secured for the first time in 34 years and Chris Hughton will look to strengthen his squad in order to prepare it for the rigours of Premier League football. The brutal fact though, is that Brighton probably can’t compete with the London clubs if they attempt to go after the same players. So Albion’s recruiting strategy will have to be a clever one.

Here are three possible transfer moves Brighton may complete during the close season:

Tammy Abraham (from Chelsea)

Surely, someone at the highest level has to take a chance on Abraham. The Chelsea man, while on loan at Bristol City, smashed in 23 goals in 41 league games this season, which is a hell of a record for a player plying his trade in the bottom half of the league.

Abraham is only 19 and looks sure to have a big future in the Premier League. Chelsea will be aware of how good he is but they cannot give him first team football because of the strength of their other forwards. Abraham is sure to be allowed to leave. Brighton should jump in while they can as he would be a quality arrival at the newly promoted club.

Lucas Leiva (from Liverpool)

Brighton’s midfield is a good one, but it will certainly need to be reinforced before September. Leiva has been an admirable servant for Liverpool over the years and, though he has lost a yard, he will bring tons of experience and class, not just to Brighton’s games, but crucially to their training sessions as well.

David Stockdale (to Leeds)

Stockdale has been lauded again and again as ‘the best keeper in the Championship’. Yet, rumours of his departure refuse to go away. For whatever reason, it seems Chris Hughton may have his eye on someone else to keep goal next season and so the club may be saying farewell to their custodian.

Leeds themselves may look to offload former England stopper Rob Green and they see Stockdale as the ideal replacement. It would not be a surprise to see him turn up at Elland Road next season.
