41 Points In 15 Games: Why The Lane Is Slowly Becoming Tottenham’s Fortress

White Hart Lane Has Become A Fortress But It Is Probably Too Late

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that Tottenham Hotspur have been the most improved team in the Premier League over the course of the past three years. From finishing 5th two years back in the 2014-15 season, Mauricio Pochettino masterminded a title challenge last season, only to see his team falter at the end of the season to finish third in the table.

However, this season, once again Tottenham have managed to improve upon their past season and look all set to improve on their position from last year, again.

The Lilywhites currently occupy the 2nd position in the league table, having accumulated 59 points from 28 games and sit 10 points behind Chelsea. With ten more rounds of fixtures to go, the title seems mathematically possible, but it could prove to be a far reach unless the Blues go through a huge collapse. However, a finish above their bitter derby rivals Arsenal looks a certain possibility.

Pochettino has managed to build a strong squad with a great blend of youth and experience. He has managed to get them playing a high-tempo attacking football that has been taking them places in the league. In Harry Kane, Spurs have one of the best strikers in England, and arguably in Europe. The 23-year old has been the main driving force behind Spurs’ recent success and has been at the forefront of their exceptional campaign this season as well. Kane has scored 19 times in the league this season and is the second leading scorer behind Everton’s Romelu Lukaku who has 21 strikes against his name.

In Dele Alli, they have one of the finest and the most promising English midfielders in the game currently. The 20-year old has chipped in with goals in plenty and has taken up the responsibility of easing the goal-scoring burden on Kane. Tottenham have an effective attacking contingent of Christian Eriksen and Heung-Min Son, while the midfield duo of Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele have been one of the best partnerships in the league. With two of the best full-backs in the country, namely Kyle Walker and Danny Rose, and with the defensive solidity of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen, it is no wonder that they have the best defensive record in the league.

Given the squad that they have at their disposal and the way they have been playing, it comes as no surprise that they have the best home record in the Premier League this season. Unbeaten at the White Hart Lane this season, Tottenham have managed to collect an amazing 41 points from 15 games, winning 13 times and drawing 2 matches against Liverpool and Leicester City earlier in the season.

Their home form has been one of the biggest reasons behind their successful 2016/17 campaign. Tottenham have won ten successive games in the league now, their best run of form at the Lane since 1987, when they managed to win 14 on the trot. And given their form, one wouldn’t put it past this Tottenham side to beat that record.

Under Pochettino, Spurs have managed to turn the White Hart Lane into an impregnable fortress. They have gotten the better of Manchester City, Chelsea and Everton, at home this season and have been unbeatable. The fact that they struggled to find a similar form at the Wembley, their home venue for the European competitions this season, tells how important the Lane and the atmosphere around it has been for Tottenham this term. Teams fear the prospect of visiting White Hart Lane now and probably will be breathing a sigh of relief that Spurs will not be playing at the Lane after this season.
