5.3 clearances, 3.3 interceptions – Tottenham signing this £3m Newcastle star would be an absolute steal

Tottenham opinion: Tottenham should sign Fabian Schar

According to the Mirror, Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar is back on the radar of North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham. The 27-year-old has been brilliant for the Magpies so far this season and has played a massive part in helping the team reach 13th place.

Tottenham have lost three of their last four games in the Premier League. Mauricio Pochettino’s side were favourites for the third spot but due to recent form, they are now embroiled in the top-4 race.

Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld are both into their 30s and have made a few mistakes this term that have cost Spurs. Pochettino will have to replace the Belgian duo sooner or later and beating Arsenal to the signing of Fabian Schar will be a fantastic move.

Schar was signed by Newcastle at the start of this season on a bargain for just £3million by activating his release clause.

The Swiss international has missed just three of Newcastle’s last 20 games and has formed a brilliant defensive partnership with Jamaal Lascelles in the heart of Newcastle’s defense.

Standing tall at 6ft 2in, Schar is a towering centre-half who compromises nothing in his game. His composure on the ball is phenomenal and that is one of the biggest reasons why has been regarded so highly over the last few years.

Schar’s passing is incredible and has the ability to pick out a teammate deep in the other half without breaking a sweat. Schar is also a regular goal threat from inside the box but is no slouch from distance either, as evident from his long-range wonder goal against Burnley a few days ago.

Schar’s biggest trait as a defender is his positioning. The former Basel centre-half knows when to rush in to intercept or to stay back and wait for the ball. His ability to sense danger is remarkable and would be a terrific addition to any top team, let alone Spurs.
