5 goals and 3 assists – This 21-year-old sensation could be the ideal solution to Tottenham’s striker woes

Why Tottenham should go all guns blazing for Albian Ajeti in January

Tottenham Hotspur will enter a tricky period from Monday as Mauricio Pochettino’s side will play four games in eight days.

The gruelling eight-day period starts with Premier League champions Manchester City facing Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley in the league before West Ham will challenge the north Londoners in the EFL Cup two days later.

Following the League Cup clash with West Ham, Wolverhampton Wanderers will welcome Spurs at the Molineux next weekend, and then a crucial Champions League group-stage encounter with PSV Eindhoven on November 6.

Tottenham appear unlikely to progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League after picking up just one point in three games but they have certainly recovered from a stuttering start to move within two points of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. Yet, there lies a clear gulf of class between Spurs and Manchester City despite just two points separating the two sides at the moment.

Spurs were the only Premier League to not sign a single player in the summer transfer window. Pochettino has entered the battlefield with the last season’s squad and although his team have performed well, they are still a couple of quality players short to mount a title challenge.

Pochettino has tried his best to reduce the burden of scoring goals off Harry Kane’s shoulders but so far he has failed. The likes of Vincent Janssen and Fernando Llorente have proven to be expensive flops and if Spurs are to succeed in every competition they participate in, they have to find a back-up striker for Kane as quickly as possible.

Keeping that in mind, Spurs must target a January move for FC Basel striker Albian Ajeti. The 21-year-old has proven to be a prolific goal-scorer for FC Basel since joining from St.Gallen last summer. He has started this season very well having scored five goals and bagged three assists in 12 league games.

To be honest, Albian Ajeti has shown a lot of promise and has really improved to a great extent at Basel. Not only is he adept at holding the ball and playing as a target man, but he is also a centre-forward who is quick and clinical in front of goal. Despite just being 6ft, the Switzerland international is a good header of the ball which makes him a genuine threat from set-pieces.

At 21, Albian Ajeti is very young and has the entire career in front of him. He is developing at a rapid rate which is fantastic signs for the young Swiss. Given that he has proven himself to be a prolific goal-scorer in Switzerland, Spurs must certainly take a punt on Ajeti in January.
