£60m Or £80m – Chelsea Should Keep This Superstar No Matter Who Comes Calling

Eden Hazard

Chelsea’s difficult season has been well documented as the defending champions are struggling in the mid table this year. Ruled out of Champions League by PSG, ruled out of FA cup by Everton, there is nothing more that could go wrong for the club as they have no source of silverware left this season.

The team sure needs a transition and a change in manager could well work in their case. Antonio Conte has been named as their new manager and the fans will be waiting to see how the players perform under their new manager.

Besides all this, there have been some speculations regarding the team’s talisman Eden Hazard for which the club has stated £80 million asking price. But, the question is, will the clubs like PSG or Real Madrid who were willing to buy this player a year ago would pay this much for a season flop player ?

Well, undoubtedly, Eden Hazard was a gem last season and was a key player who played a major role in lifting the premier league trophy. He was an absolute class in every department and was named PFA player of the season. What a season that was for the club and the player.

But, this season has gone the wrong way for the player as he is continuously failing to replicate his previous form. Hazard possesses many abilities, and as his name tells the story, he is very hazardous to his opponents in terms of his pace. As he has the ability to use both the feet, he switches the flanks regularly. He’s also very difficult to dispossess and his finishing is top notch. He was performing at such a level that his manager (Jose Mourinho) compared him to Cristiano Ronaldo.

Since then, the player has gone out of his form. He has been entirely ineffective in this season. Although played some good games at the initial stages of this season, his form started to diminish and his frustrating time at the club will surely result in a transfer. But, Chelsea won’t let this player go at a cheap price as well.

Other players like Matic, Mikel, Oscar and Remy are willing to leave the club and the club itself might not fight for their future. But, the Blues have demanded £80 million for the player who hasn’t scored a single goal this year in the premier league. Well, compared to his previous year at the club, he scored 14 goals for the club and had an average passing accuracy of 87%. This year, he has the average shooting accuracy of 39%. And asking £80 million for such a player makes no sense. Even if the club could get £60m for him they should let him go. With this amount of money, the club can get a top quality player who has not been a one-season wonder.

Hazard had a desire to win the biggest award for an individual i.e. Ballon D’Or and for that, he needs to perform each and every week. It is quite possible that this all has been a result of fatigue. But after all, he was a star for the club and the fans expected somewhere similar performance from him. The arrival of Pedro eased the burden from the players shoulders. With Willian and Pedro on the flanks, the club can find a great player who can play as an attacking midfielder to support Diego Costa as well as on the flanks, so the need for Hazard to perform at his maximum best gradually started to decrease.

It is reported that Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have both been trying to sign this player in the past, but are now waiting to see if Chelsea will lower their desired fee in order to get a deal done. Europe’s newspaper suggest that both the clubs will  prefer a deal nearer to £60 million which is quite a big amount for the player who has scored fewer goals than Marouane Fellaini this year.

As the new manager will come, he will imply his tactics, he will bring some fresh faces into the squads and many will have to find an another club. But, speaking for Hazard, Real Madrid would be a false choice as they already have Kroos, Modric, Ronaldo, Bale, Isco, James. If at least 2 of them leave the club, he will get a regular play time or else he will end his career as a bench warmer for the club. But I honestly think that Chelsea should keep this player and give him an another opportunity under the new manager who is known for using the 3-5-2 formation in which the attacking players play a major role and will need an attacking box-to-box midfielder in a three-man midfield.

So, this would be my opinion that; keep the player and give him a regular start from the next season and also keep the asking price same. I know that’s a humongous amount but, if the clubs like Real Madrid or PSG bids for the player, that would be the best deal for the club who bought him for £32 million.
