7 goals, 9 assists – Everton signing this terrific Ajax star in the summer would be a massive boost for Silva

Everton opinion – Should Everton sign Donny van de Beek?

According to a report in Liverpool Echo (h/t Dean Jones of Bleacher Report), Everton are one of the many clubs interested in signing Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek.

The Toffees are expected to be in the summer market in order to enhance the quality of their midfield. They signed a Dutch midfielder named Davy Klaassen from Ajax in 2017 but his time at Goodison didn’t fulfill the expectations. He was eventually sold to Werder Bremen.

However, the Merseysiders have not been put off by that and have a genuine interest in getting the services of van de Beek ahead of the start of next season (h/t Liverpool Echo).

According to the report, Serie A clubs have also sent scouts to watch the Ajax man, who starred in the Dutch club’s historic win against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in the Champions League.

Here’s why Everton should beat every club interested and sign Donny van de Beek in the summer:

Everton need more quality in their midfield

Everton haven’t had a great first season under the management of Marco Silva. They are currently 11th in the table, closer to the bottom three than to the top-six in terms of points won, which tells quite a negative story of their campaign so far.

While they need a striker who can score goals on a regular basis, the Toffees lack quality in the middle of the park as well.

Idrissa Gueye has done well but his future will be in the air come the summer window, while the likes of Tom Davies and Morgan Schneiderlin aren’t really reliable to hold the team together in the most important position.

Hence, it makes sense that they are lining up a potential move for Donny van de Beek. The Dutchman can play in central midfield and also as a number 10 behind the striker.

He has had a great season in the Eredivisie and in the Champions League, where his performance at Madrid was probably his best in an Ajax shirt.

The 21-year-old has scored 7 goals and provided 9 assists in 32 appearances in the league and Europe. He is a hard-working player who has the guile on the ball and possesses the hunger to work for the team.

Conclusion

If Everton manage to sign van de Beek from the Netherlands in the summer, it would be a massive coup for them. They should do everything possible to offer the player a great deal and convince him to come to Goodison.
