7 goals and 3 assists – Why Leeds United must go all out to land this goal scoring midfield sensation

According to reports, Leeds United are working on a deal to sign Venezia starlet Leo Stulac. Stulac, 23, put in several impressive performances for the Serie B outfit this season, scoring seven goals and providing three assists in 23 matches. It is an incredible return for someone, who plays as a central midfielder.

Leeds United had a start-stop season in the Championship, and there is no denying that a lot of work needs to be done if the Whites are to mount a serious promotion push next campaign.

Paul Heckingbottom, who replaced Thomas Christiansen as the club’s new head coach earlier in the year, also failed to deliver positive results on a consistent basis and was recently sacked after just 16 games in charge of the club.

The Yorkshire outfit finished 13th in the Championship table with 60 points, a staggering 15 points adrift of the top six. Leeds need to bolster their squad in the summer but should they sign Stulac?

Leeds have depth in their midfield department with the likes of Kalvin Phillips, Ronaldo Vieira, Adam Forshaw, and Eunan O’Kane all featuring in the middle of the park for the Whites last term. However, barring Forshaw and Vieira, the other midfielders failed to shine and constantly deliver the goods at Elland Road.

While strengthening other areas of the pitch should be prioritised, signing a midfielder would do no harm as such for Leeds.

Speaking about Stulac, he moved to Italian football with Venezia in the summer of 2016 from Slovenian side FC Koper. Since Venezia, he has impressed massively, playing a key role this season.

Stulac, a technically gifted midfielder, has showcased his tendency to score goals and create chances for his teammates at Venezia. He is a versatile player, who is capable of playing in a deep-lying playmaker’s role or in an advanced position.

Leeds have lacked goals from midfield last season, so the addition of Stulac makes complete sense. He has represented Slovenia at every youth level. Also, the midfield dynamo only has a year left on his contract with Venezia, meaning he could be available for cheap.

So, if Leeds are genuinely interested in Stulac, they have to act swiftly and sign him as he could significantly improve the Whites’ squad.
