8 goals and 1 assist – West Brom can achieve promotion by completing a permanent deal for this 27-year-old speedster

West Bromwich Albion should sign Dwight Gayle on a permanent basis

West Bromwich Albion have continued their impressive form under Darren Moore, with the Baggies being one of the favourites to lift the Championship title this season. Moore’s men are currently just one point behind league leaders Sheffield United and are very much a part of the race.

The Baggies have also scored a league-high 31 goals this season, playing an expansive style of football under Darren Moore. The manager brought in a few signings to bolster the squad in the summer and Dwight Gayle is one of them who has made a massive impact so far.

The Newcastle United striker was brought in on a season-long loan swap deal that saw West Brom hitman Salomon Rondon move in the other direction. Though Gayle is just on a year-long loan deal, it seems far more feasible for the Baggies to sign the 27-year-old on a permanent basis next summer.

Dwight Gayle

Gayle has proven to be a far more potent threat than Salomon Rondon since making his move to the Hawthorns. The Newcastle loanee has been involved a total of 10 league appearances this season, scoring 8 goals and providing 1 assist. (Stats courtesy – Whoscored)

He is currently their top scorer in the league with Jay Rodriguez close behind on 7 goals. However, it is Gayle who has made the biggest impact this season. The last time the striker played in the Championship, he finished the season as the Golden Boot winner.

Gayle has averaged 2.5 shots per game this season and has been a constant menace in front of the goal. His pace and ability to run at the defences have made West Brom utterly devastating on the counter. He has also linked up well with his teammates in the final third and has added the ability to be the provider as well. (Stats courtesy – Whoscored)

Moreover, the arrival of Dwight Gayle has seen Jay Rodriguez’s form rise. The former Southampton striker now looks like his old prolific self after enduring a couple of lacklustre seasons in the last few years.

There’s no doubt West Bromwich Albion should try and sign Dwight Gayle on a permanent basis at the end of the season. Rondon seems a little more settled at Newcastle United right now and it would be best for both parties to hold onto what they have on a temporary basis.
