A diamond in the rough? Liverpool should consider signing this 27-year-old creative ace to fill Coutinho’s void

Liverpool should definitely go for Pascal Gross in January

Liverpool secured a hard-earned 3-1 victory against Burnley during the midweek encounter at Turf Moor. Prior to that, Jurgen Klopp’s men had walked away with all 3 points against Everton in a tough Merseyside derby last weekend.

But once again the Reds’ midfield lacked a cutting edge and creative presence in the final third. Liverpool’s front three were made to do most of the offensive business on their own and it seems to be taking a toll on the team.

Jurgen Klopp must prioritize signing an attacking midfielder when the transfer window re-opens in January. Liverpool are in dire need of some top quality in the middle of the park and someone who can make things tick in the final third.

Pascal Gross

The Reds should take a look at Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Pascal Gross. The German midfielder joined the Seagulls from Bundesliga outfit FC Ingolstadt 04 last season and was an instant hit in the Premier League.

Gross scored 7 goals and picked up 8 assists in 38 league appearances for Chris Hughton’s side last season. He is the epitome of a creative midfielder and will immediately eradicate all of Liverpool’s midfield woes.

The German international thrives by whipping in dangerous balls into the areas and spotting the runs of his teammates. His sublime deliveries into the box are sent in with venom and cause all sorts of problems for opposition defenders.

Gross provided a total of 234 crosses into the box last season while creating a total of 16 big chances in that time. Generally a central attacking midfielder, the 27-year-old is also capable of playing on either flank. It is on the wings where Gross really thrives due to the in-swinging crosses he plays into the box. (Stats courtesy – Whoscored)

Pascal Gross

The German will surely fit into either of Klopp’s 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formation used this season. The likes of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah will all thrive with Pascal Gross pulling the strings behind them.

Their ability to make runs behind defenders will bode well with the German picking the passes and unlocking the defence. He is also very good at tracking back and supporting the defence as well.

Klopp should definitely make a move for the German midfielder in January. Brighton will surely be reluctant to part ways with their star but a big move to Liverpool will not be easy for any player to resist. If Klopp doesn’t bring in an attacking midfielder in January, things could worsen for the Reds and derail their season.
