A January Raid For This Bundesliga Left-back Could Stable Liverpool’s Defence And Add An Attacking Threat

Philipp Max

Why Philipp Max Would Be A Great Signing For Liverpool

Standing at 4th place in the points table, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are well on their way to a top-4 finish this season but still need a few additions to their squad, to make sure that there are no slip-ups towards the business end of the season. Currently on a 10-game unbeaten streak, Liverpool are a side in-form and manager Jurgen Klopp will be pleased with his side’s performances recently.

However, this has not stopped the club from being linked with a number of players for a move and one player who has been linked with the club is Augsburg defender Philipp Max.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Liverpool are one of many clubs interested in the services of the German full-back, who is currently making the headlines at the Augsburg Arena. In 15 starts this season, he has 7 assists and a goal to his name, and is close to making his first appearance for the German national side.

The story claims that the likes of Everton, Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United, along with Liverpool, all had scouts present during Augsburg’s 1-1 draw vs Hertha Berlin, where Max was super impressive. So should Liverpool spend on this German ace?

A former Bayern Munich academy graduate, Max is an attacking minded full-back, who loves to create chances in the final third. His crossing is right up there with the best in the Bundesliga but his ability to find players in space, even in dangerous areas, is what makes him an effective defender.

He is a cool customer, hardly ever gets fazed and his ability on a dead-ball is an added attraction. He has to work on his aerial strength but his positioning and defensive discipline are a definite upgrade for Liverpool on their current options.

Spanish defender Alberto Moreno has been solid this season for the Reds but his capitulation against Sevilla earlier this season shows that he is still a liability for the club. Young Andrew Robertson is yet to put a foot wrong in that position but the manager does not seem to believe that he is ready for first-team action on a regular basis and could go for another full-back.

At 24, Max is a decent option and the fact that neither options Liverpool have at their disposal can win then a title, it is imperative that they find an option for the first-team quickly and the German may just be the one.

With 68 Bundesliga appearances already under his belt, Philipp Max is already an established player and if given enough time, he could turn into a star for the Reds. Though their central defence is of more concern at the moment, Klopp should not pass a chance to sign one of the most promising full-backs in Europe.
