A match made in heaven? £100m Chelsea attacker could be the next Galatico at Santiago Bernabeu

Antecedent to Belgium’s opening World Cup game, Eden Hazard expressed his opinion on a possible transfer to Real Madrid. The 27-year old stated that Los Blancos “know what they need to do” in order to sign him from Chelsea. The statement has caused a hullabaloo among both sets of fans.

Hazard was quoted as saying,

“Real Madrid could interest me, the world knows that. But if tomorrow this club does not want me any longer then we will not speak about it any longer. If they want to buy me they know what they need to do. I don’t want to go there just for the sake of it. There needs to be a project.”

Chelsea are reportedly expecting more than £100m for the Belgian star. While it would be perfect for Madrid to sign the Belgian, Chelsea might get severely perturbed. Hazard has been their best player for the past few seasons and losing him might prompt manifold problems. The Blues already have other areas to improve this summer and they cannot afford to relinquish their prized asset.

But if the player has his heart set on a move out of Stamford Bridge, there is nothing much the club can do. Meanwhile, Real Madrid must do everything to get him this summer. With the current squad obscurely ageing, new manager Julien Lopetegui would be looking to sign a few new players in the summer. And acquiring Hazard’s services won’t be a bad start.

Scouting Eden Hazard

Hazard doesn’t need any introduction, such is the calibre of this player. However, here are some stats to eulogize his qualities. The 27-year old is one of the best when it comes to getting out of hermetic situations with the ball. His low centre of gravity allows him to turn defenders around with the ball at feet.

The fact that he can carry the ball with his dribbling skills at pace results in him being a perfect befit for a counter-attacking move. (his dribbling rate was 4.9 per game in the Premier League last season). The Belgian always has a good chemistry with a lead striker since he can either make dummy runs or profit from the runs made by his partner. His key passing rate was 2.5 per game last season, thereby highlighting his credentials as an assist-creator.

His propensity to score goals and being lethal from dead-ball situations is an added advantage for any team. Since arriving at Chelsea from Lille in 2012, Hazard has scored 69 goals and provided 46 assists in the Premier League.

Overview

In the current context, Hazard moving to Real Madrid will be the right course of action for both the player and Los Blancos. Lopetegui’s system will demand wide players to be proficient in front of goal, and having the Belgian in the lineup would help his cause in an enormous way.
