A no-brainer: Bournemouth simply have to sign this 26-year-old Bundesliga shot-stopper or it could be trouble

Bournemouth opinion: Cherries should sign Alexander Schwolow

Bournemouth’s goalkeeper situation is in dire trouble at the moment. It’s even worse than Crystal Palace’s and the Eagles had a 39 year old Julian Speroni play against Liverpool. However, the Cherries on the other hand, have been using Artur Boruc regularly since mid-January.

While he has been doing relatively well, the club needs another option going forward. Asmir Begovic hasn’t played since mid-January, and that looks like it will continue with Sky Sports and the Sun revealing that the former Chelsea star has had a bust-up with manager Eddie Howe.

This has played a big role in him being left out of Bournemouth’s squad over the last few months and moreover, there seems to be no end in sight.

This gives the club a massive problem, especially taking into the fact that Boruc is 39 years old and won’t be able to play top-level football for too much longer.

While there is a catalogue of goalkeepers that Bournemouth can target, one man they should consider is Alexander Schwolow.

The 26-year-old has been Freiburg’s main man between the sticks ever since he forced his way back into the club. After being shipped out on multiple loan spells, Schwolow eventually found his footing and impressed so much that he finally made his debut for the club.

Yet, it was only during the 2015/16 season that the 26-year-old played a full season, and he has missed only a few games since. That simply shows just how good and tenacious the German can be, fighting for exactly what he wants.

Furthermore, at 6’2”, Schwolow is at the perfect height to be a goal-keeper. His height allows him to make incredible saves but more so, it’s his reflexes that make him who he is. Shockingly agile and proficient at shot-stopping, Schwolow adds incredible composure to his list as well.

Furthermore for Bournemouth, what makes him the perfect man to hang their laurel on is the fact that he epitomises the modern goalkeeper. While his goalkeeping is second to only a few in the Bundesliga, Schwolow is also more than proficient with his feet.

That’s not to say he’s as good as Ederson or even Kepa Arrizabalaga but the 26-year-old has something about him that makes him a solid investment.

Conclusion

Bournemouth, more than anything, need a new goalkeeper. They cannot keep depending on Artur Boruc because eventually, the 39-year-old’s levels will drop.

Meanwhile, there have already been reports (Sun) about the fact that Begovic could be on his way out and bringing in Alexander Schwolow will help bridge the gap.

At 26, the German is yet to hit his prime as a goalkeeper but that still makes him a better option than either Boruc.
