A tough call for Emery but Arsenal would be better off parting ways with £350k-a-week world-class superstar

Why Arsenal should sell Mesut Ozil amidst Inter Milan interest

According to a report in Daily Mail, Serie A giants Inter Milan are offering playmaker Mesut Ozil an escape route from Arsenal. The 30-year-old has fallen out of favour in the past month or so under Unai Emery. The new manager has also suggested that he would leave the German on the bench in tough away games, partly the reason why the latter didn’t feature against Bournemouth.

As per a report in Sun, Ozil will consider his options at the end of this season despite signing a new contract earlier this year. He is currently earning £350,000-a-week and is one of the top earners in the league.

Here’s why Arsenal can let go of the German in the summer:

Emery’s choices should be primary

Arsenal have made an ideal start under the new management, signifying their progress by smashing Tottenham 4-2 in the North London derby on Sunday. Unai Emery’s men seem to play football of high intensity by pressing from the front and being very quick in transition.

The latest change in formation to 3-4-2-1 means that the Gunners look better with high wing-backs, three central defenders and a narrow front-line. However, Ozil hasn’t been able to get into the team.

It is partly because of the way Emery wants his team to play and partly due to the fact that the German gets injured too often. As mentioned above, the manager has suggested that he will leave the 30-year-old out of the team whenever there is a need. That means the player is no longer a first-choice at the club despite being the highest earner.

These are ominous signs of Ozil considering his options at the end of this season. If a club like Inter Milan offer an escape route, it should be accepted by the German.

Arsenal should also let go of their “star man” who isn’t a real favourite of their current football manager. Emery is trying to build something new here and has done a fantastic job to earn respect inside and outside the club.

Hence, it is imperative from the Gunners’ viewpoint that they adhere to what the gaffer is intending to do.

It is clear that Ozil isn’t in his priority, hence, the better solution would be to sell the player, get some funds and invest in new players. The wage bill will take a relief turn as well.
