AC Milan set for Rijkaard as Massimiliano Allegri likely to get fired

After a disastrous transfer window which saw club legends retire or leave the club, Milan were expected to have a tough season. But not many expected them to struggle at such an early stage of the season. After losing five of eight Italian league matches, Milan are off to their worst start in 71 years, and the club’s crisis grew even larger with a 1-0 loss at Champions League newcomer Malaga on Wednesday.

Many pundits opine that the game against Genoa this Saturday could decide the fate of Allegri. Another loss and he’s sure to get axed with assistant coach Mauro Tassotti favorite to take over as the interim head coach.

“We’re lacking a bit of luck right now. Let’s hope the music changes Saturday,” Allegri said after the Malaga match, adding that he’s not considering stepping down. “Absolutely not. That’s not my style. I’ve got a lot of confidence in these guys”.

Former Milan player and Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard is also said to be considered for the role. The former midfielder made 202 appearances for AC Milan 1988 to 1993 and was a fan favorite at the club. He also had a successful stint as a manager with Barcelona. He is currently the manager of Saudi Arabia after previous stays as manager of the Dutch national team, Sparta Rotterdam, Barcelona and Galatasaray.
