After a £11m rejected bid in 2016, it’s time for Liverpool to go back in for this Bundesliga beast – opinion

Why Liverpool should revive their interest in Christian Pulisic

According to Liverpool Echo, Liverpool are set to reignite their interest in Borussia Dortmund star Christian Pulisic. Jurgen Klopp is said to be a keen admirer of the United States international, who has been making a name for himself over the last two years.

The Reds were previously linked with the 20-year-old but saw a £11million bid rejected in 2016. But the report suggests that Liverpool are now willing to dive back into that boat in January due to a lack of cutting edge in their midfield in the recent weeks.

After making a splendid unbeaten start to their season, Liverpool are now winless in their last 4 games, losing to Chelsea in the League Cup as well. A repetitive pattern in all of those games was the Reds’ midfield setup that has lacked a creative spark going forward.

Along with that, Liverpool’s famed front three have largely underperformed over the last few weeks and this is exactly why Klopp should go back for Pulisic in January. The 20-year-old has proven to be one of the most versatile players in Bundesliga over the last two seasons.

Christian Pulisic

He will definitely flourish in Klopp’s high-intensity pressing system. Pulisic is generally classified as a central attacking midfielder but the American is also comfortable playing on either flank. He possesses great ability on the ball and is a direct player who likes to take on the defenders.

Pulisic has made a total of 4 appearances in the Bundesliga this season, scoring 1 goal and providing 1 assist. He is also an immaculate passer of the ball, averaging a pass success rate of 81% in the league.

The American has carried his impressive form into the Champions League as well, scoring after coming on as a substitute in the last game. He has also averaged a pass success rate of 85% in the Champions League. (Stats courtesy – Whoscored)

Klopp should definitely go for the versatile player when the transfer window re-opens in January. Not only will he solve their immediate problem in midfield, but Pulisic will also serve as an excellent long-term investment at the club.

Under Klopp, the American will definitely receive the right kind of support required to take his career to the next level.
