Aged just 17, this prodigious Bolton prospect would be an outstanding long-term investment for Brighton – opinion

Why Bolton’s Luca Connell would be a perfect investment for Brighton

According to reports from the Bolton News, Bolton Wanderers’ Luca Connell has piqued the interest of Premier League mid-table outfit Brighton and Hove Albion, who are very keen on bringing the versatile midfield prospect to the Amex Stadium.

Brighton haven’t had a very bad season by any standard and while relegation is still a real threat, they must be quite relaxed given their rather reassuring position on the table. Currently in a very respectable 14th place, they are still only 3 points off the dreaded relegation zone.

While this is the case, experienced manager Chris Hughton should be confident that he can keep this extremely talented Brighton side in the Premier League.

First off, the 35-year-old Glenn Murray has been an absolute sensation this campaign, having scored 10 goals in his 26 games so far. Surprisingly, their second highest goalscorer is centre-half Shane Duffy, who has notched up 5 goals.

Players like Pascal Gross, Solly March and Jurgen Locadia have immense quality that does come good on certain occasions but if there is one position where the Seagulls just seem to lack a bit of creativity, then it’s central midfield.

They have 4 recognised central midfielders in their squad but none of them have stepped up and delivered the goods. This is extremely worrying given that they’re trying to survive in what is probably the most competitive league in the world.

Yves Bissouma, Beram Kayal, Dale Stephens and Davy Propper complete Brighton’s midfield depth and while there is immense talent in these names, they haven’t really been able to perform to the required standard. The addition of a young, confident player could be vital in energising the fallen stars.

As suggested by the Bolton News, Bolton Wanderers midfielder Luca Connell has been a subject of interest from Hughton’s men. He provides versatility to the team, which will be a massive asset for the Seagulls.

Originally a left-back, he is capable of playing in multiple positions across the pitch but it’s in the midfield that he really shines. His amazing ability to carry the ball is backed by his shooting power as well. At just 17, he is a big talent on the rise.

His addition to the ranks will certainly come as a wake-up call to Brighton’s out-of-form midfielders. He is certainly a massive talent and with the right training and mentoring, he could one day be a star for the Seagulls.
