Australia faced a brutal draw at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. They were placed in Group B alongside the reigning champions Spain, the runners-up from the previous tournament, the Netherlands, and Chile. Despite putting up a fight, Australia fell short in all three group stage matches. They lost 3-1 to Chile and 3-2 to the Netherlands, before a final 3-0 defeat to Spain. After a successful 4 year stint in Japan, Postecoglou moved to the Scottish club Celtic, making him the first Australian manager to manage a major club in Europe. Postecoglou made his debut in a UEFA Champions League qualifier on 20 July, against FC Midtjylland. At the end of the 2021–22 season, he became the first Australian manager to win a league title in Europe, after sealing the SPFL in a dominating way. He also won the PFA Scotland Manager of the Year and SFWA Manager of the Year.
In the 2022–23 season, Postecoglou’s Celtic did wonders on the field and bagged the club’s eighth treble by winning the Scottish Premiership, Scottish League Cup, and the Scottish Cup. He was also nominated for the FIFA World Coach of the Year.
Tottenham Hotspur
On 6 June 2023, Postecoglou was appointed head coach of Tottenham Hotspur on a four-year contract. His appointment saw him become both the first Australian and the first person born in Greece to manage in the Premier League.

He won the award for September as well and is the first-ever manager to win it in his first two months in the competition.
