Arsenal are in dire need of beating Liverpool to sign this £60m-rated Polish powerhouse in the summer – Here is why

Arsenal Opinion: Why Arsenal should beat Liverpool to Napoli star Piotr Zielinski

The Mirror (h/t Corriere del Mezzogiorno) has reported that Arsenal are leading the race for Napoli star Piotr Zielinski with Liverpool also in the battle for the Polish star. The 24-year-old was a revelation under Maurizio Sarri and has improved even further under the more tactically demanding Carlo Ancelotti.

A central midfielder by trade, Zielinski would be a great replacement for the outgoing Aaron Ramsey. Not only does the Polish international love to move forward to help out the offensive side of the game but thanks to his dribbling and vision, he can be an absolute menace at times.

While it would take him some time to get used to Unai Emery’s style of play, the 24-year-old’s work rate and willingness to play as a box-to-box midfielder will help him fit right in.

However, consistency has been his among his main issues, with the Polish star struggling to maintain his form over a long period of time. But while he is a central midfielder, Zielinski does have a defensive side and it is not his strong suit.

The fact that Arsenal have added the likes of Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira over the summer, should help free the 24-year-old to do what he does best.

But even more so, losing Ramsey will be a big blow. The Welshman established himself as a first-team choice and a fan favourite after arriving from Cardiff City and replacing him in the current market will be easier said than done.

However, if there is anyone who would come even close to doing what Ramsey did for Arsenal, it’s Piotr Zielinski. While the Polish star has a few cracks to be ironed out, that’s something that can be done.

Not to mention any move will cost upwards of £60 million [The Mirror (h/t Corriere del Mezzogiorno)] and will put a massive dent in any further plans that Arsenal have. But it’s a position they desperately need to reinforce over the summer, along with their defense, which is why they need to make sure Liverpool don’t convince him first.

The Reds are also in the race for the Napoli star and have been for quite some time, with the Mirror revealing that the Anfield side even made an approach in 2016. While the move failed, Jurgen Klopp and his scouting staff have maintained an interest and that could potential derail any move that Arsenal and Unai Emery might make.
