Arsenal beating Man United to land this £70m French League star would be a big statement of intent from Emery

Arsenal Opinion: Should Arsenal beat Manchester United for Nicolas Pepe?

The Mirror (h/t Telefoot) has reported that LOSC Lille is ready to sell Arsenal and Manchester United target Nicolas Pepe, despite the fact that the Ivory Coast star is having the season of his life.

So far, the 23-year-old forward has scored 16 goals, created 10 assists, is LOSC Lille’s top scorer by some margin and is behind only Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani in the race for the Golden Boot.

All this and the 23-year-old is only in his second season with Lille, having signed for them in the summer of 2017. But his form this season has seen his stock in the footballing world shoot up, so much so that he is among Manchester United and Arsenal’s top targets, according to Football.London.

Given the possibility of a big money move in the near future, the Ivory Coast star has a tough decision to make but for Arsenal, it’s a simple one. Not only does Unai Emery’s side have only two bonafide wingers, but their desperate search for one during the winter-window, saw them fail with bids for two top stars.

Both Ivan Perisic (h/t the Standard) and Yannick Carrasco (h/t the Standard) were ready to move the Emirates but the North London side failed to complete a deal, with their financial issues playing a big part. Things might change in the summer and Arsenal have to make a move for Nicolas Pepe.

Not only will the Ivory Coast international adapt brilliantly to the Premier League, thanks in part to his exquisite blend of pace and strength, but his relentless ability to work hard for any side he plays for will also please Unai Emery. The new Arsenal boss demands that his players do their fair share both offensively and defensively, which is exactly what Pepe does.

However, any move for the young forward will cost upwards of £70million as quoted by LOSC Lille Sporting Director Luis Campos, according to Sky Sports (h/t Telefoot), which may prove to be a big problem for Arsenal. That’s only if the rumours about their summer transfer budget are true.

Conclusion

If everything does fall into place, then Arsenal shouldn’t stop themselves from winning the race for Nicolas Pepe and under Unai Emery, the Ivory Coast star will only improve further.

But while Manchester United are in the race, Pepe’s path to the first-team won’t be straight forward at Old Trafford. This does give the North London side an advantage, but it’s one they need to make use of in the summer window.
