Arsenal FC: Three Alternative Transfer Targets For Wenger To Pursue

Arsenal’s priority this season have been a world class striker as they were not able to fill the void created by Van Persie after his move to Manchester United. Their sole target had been Real Madrid’s Argentine forward, Gonzalo Higuian (after initially been linked with the likes of Villa and Jovetic) with many media houses reporting that even personal agreement were struck with him. But now Madrid president Florentino Perez has stated that the club has not received an official offer for the player, which has made many supporters disappointed.

However, the topic is futile now, and what can be more productive is look for some alternatives of the Argentine striker.

Stevan Jovetic:

No Jovetic deal for Arsenal?

Considering Jovetic as the club’s initial target, it is a rather the best choice to go back to this Montenegrin forward, who may become a soft target for the London-based club. Having played for Fiorentina without much competition for a starting berth, Jovetic will have to fight it out with new recruit Mario Gomez and may face the heat of being subbed. So, Arsenal’s offer will surely attract this 23-year old striker, and adding to this, Higuain and Jovetic represent the same style of striker, athletic and versatile with a keen eye for goal.

Wilfried Bony:

This Ivorian striker, who plays for Eredivisie side Vitesse, ended last season as the top scorer of the league, netting 31 times in his 30 appearances, which is nothing short of a phenomenal achievement for a 24-year old striker. He is being called “new Didier Drogba” by some and he has already grabbed the attention of many top notch managers. To top it all, there is still time left for the Frenchman to bid for him, who would cost considerably less than some other targets linked with the club.

Christian Benteke:

Christian Bentecke with 15 goals has been Aston Villa's Saviour

Don’t get surprised after reading this, but yes, he can become the trump card for Wenger. The 22-year-old Belgium international has reportedly handed over a transfer request to Aston Villa as he wants to move to a bigger club with a bigger ambition. Spurs, who have lost their major target David Villa to Atletico, have been put on red alert with the forwards transfer request. However, if Arsenal and Wenger go calling, there is every chance that the Belgian will move to the Emirates ahead of the White Hart Lane.

However, Villa’s valuation of over £25m could be a telling factor plus the involvement of Chelsea (after having missed out on Cavani) could only make it difficult for the North Londoners.
