Arsenal Latest Including: Mesut Ozil And Arsene Wenger

Arsenal

Roundup of News and Views from the Emirates

“A player like Ozil gives you a step forward quality-wise and gives you another player on the pitch who can decide the game for you.” claimed Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta while talking about the Gunners recent form. The Spaniard claimed that this is the best set of midfielders that Arsenal could dream about and Mesut Ozil’s presence has added certain attacking flare to their game play.

The midfielder went on to state that, the current team in nowhere near the standards of Arsenal’s invincibles but they are only getting better with game. Quoted by Dailymail, Arteta said:

I don’t think we are at that level yet, but competition makes everyone work harder so it is a great thing because it raises the level,’ said Arteta, who has recovered from a thigh problem to return to the side. If you don’t play well for one or two games, then you can be dropped.

We have players to come back like Santi (Cazorla) and Abou Diaby and that’s the way we want it. When it is really tough, everyone is at 100 per cent and that makes a big difference.’

Throughout the summer, when Arsenal fans were expecting Wenger to bring in a centre forward and a defensive midfielder, they witnessed nothing but an injury prone Yaya Sanogo until the deadline day when the unthinkable happened. Although Ozil’s position was well equipped with Cazorla and Wilshere, the German’s signature has changed the look of this team. As they say from “Top 4 battlers”  to “Title contenders” Ozil, the £42.5 million man has changed the way the neutral fan look at the club.

“It was a great message from the club because everyone was really expecting a top, top player, probably a striker rather than a No 10, but in the end we got an amazing player and that gave a lift to everyone, not only us but you can see the people are excited again to come and watch and that makes a big difference,’ he said.

“A player like Ozil gives you a step forward quality-wise and gives you another player on the pitch who can decide the game for you. ‘He proved again that he is able to do it and that’s always great. The more players you have like that, the better chance you have. I always said this is the toughest league to win because you have five or six candidates this year to win it.”

It is still very early stages and nobody has really done anything yet but at least we are looking good, very solid, winning the games and we have got a gap to some of the other teams now. In the last few years it has been the opposite, so that is very positive.’

In other news, Mirror reports that Arsene Wenger is set for a new contract. The “Wenger out” signs at Emirates on the opening day fixture against Aston Villa looks like a long while ago as the Arsenal board are preparing a new contract for Wenger which will see him manage the club for another 3 years. Wenger, who recently completed his 17th year as the Gunners boss is the longest serving Premier League manager.

Arsene Wenger is poised to begin serious contract negotiations as Arsenal look to tie him down to an £8million-a-year deal. This will certainly put an end to the rumours about PSG wanting the Frenchman at the Parc des Princes.
