Forget Lacazette – 3 Reasons Why Arsenal Should Sign His Teammate Instead

Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal spent decent amount of money on their squad at the start of the season, but if the Frenchman stays at the club next season, he will surely have to spend big yet again to help them compete at the highest level. The Frenchman has been looking for players in Europe to improve various areas of his squad and has been linked with some star players recently. One name that is doing the rounds recently is Lyon star Nabil Fekir. The 23-year old French international has been linked with a move to the Emirates recently and Wenger is reportedly ready to step up his pursuit before the end of the season.

So should Wenger move for the youngster?

Here are three reasons why Wenger should do everything to get him to the Emirates this summer.

Fekir would be a good fit for Arsenal.
Fekir would be a good fit for Arsenal.

Scoring prowess:

Born and brought up in Lyon, France, the 23-year old has always been known for his eye for goal even as a teenager in the youth setup at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais. He scored 13 goals in 63 appearances for the junior side at the club, with most of the appearances coming as a substitute. He then made it into the senior side in 2013, where he has scored 24 goals in 75 appearances so far. He also has a goal in just 7 appearances for the national side. For his age, he is a genuine goal scorer and that is something that Arsenal have been missing for a long time now.

His versatility:

Fekir has all the attributes that make him a perfect number 9 but he is also adept at playing a slightly deeper role or also on the wing. He is a versatile player who can adjust to the needs of his position and Wenger will need such players will all the injury history in recent times. Wenger has found some success playing Sanchez as a false-9 and Fekir will allow that flexibility in the final third that can be important in crunch games. He is productive in most positions he plays in and if Wenger can use him properly, Fekir can turn into the player that can help the Gunners take the next step in the future.

His price:

Currently valued at just €12m, Fekir will not cost Arsenal a lot even if Lyon play hardball with the negotiations. At his age, the player is one for the future; a long-term investment and this is something that usually attracts Wenger. Also, Arsenal might not have to pay anything in the north of €20m if they can convince the player to leave. He is contracted with the French outfit till 2020 which might drive the price up but Lyon will be more than happy to sell at close to double his current market value. He is growing as a footballer and is a potential star in the making. Hence, Wenger should be able to land him on the cheap if he has his mind set on him. Thus Fekir seems to be an excellent option for Arsenal this summer.
