Arsenal Opinion – Who Should The Gunners Sign? £49m Englishman or £58m Frenchman?

Raheem Sterling

Raheem Sterling or Anthony Martial? Who Should Arsenal Target?

With 13 points from 7 games, Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal have made a decent start to the campaign, albeit an inconsistent one. The manager will look to get the club back to the top of the table but he has a number of issues in the squad that he needs to solve before the end of the season.

The futures of two of their star players, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil are hanging by the thread and Wenger wants to make sure that he has adequate replacements lined up even if he loses them.

Two such star players linked with a move to the club are Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling and Manchester United’s Anthony Martial.

22 and 21 respectively, both players are young, but are serious parts of their current squads and it will not be easy to lure them away from their clubs. However, Arsenal might have enough cash to lure them if they decide to sell the former La Liga duo in the January transfer window. So who is a better fit for Arsenal, Martial or Sterling?

Anthony Martial

Both players have made tremendous starts to the league campaign this season. With 3 goals and 2 assists in just 148 minutes this season, Martial, who joined Man Utd for a fee rising up to £58m, has been impeccable in front of goal and has turned into a key player for Manchester United.

Playing on the left-wing for most of his time at the club, the French international is only growing in stature and confidence, and is slowly turning into a superstar. He was linked with an exit in the summer as well and Arsenal will hope that the French connection with the gaffer can smoothen this deal.

Sterling, who joined Man City for a whopping £49m, has 5 goals to his name in as many games and was only stopped by a silly suspension. He has slowly earned the trust of the Spanish manager at Etihad and is an integral part of the squad at the moment.

There’s no question of players settling down because both of them have enough PL experience. But at the moment, Martial seems an infinitely better fit for the Gunners.

With twinkle feet and even better head in the final third, the 21-year old former AS Monaco star is still early in his career and most of the criticism that he has recently faced is baseless.

He has an excellent conversion rate and has not been used regularly in the first-team at Old Trafford. He will look for more game time, which Arsene Wenger can provide. However, he will surely cost a fortune even next summer.

However, he is one of the few names in Europe that can replace the outgoing stars from the Emirates and should be preferred over Sterling.
