Arsenal Player Ratings vs Borussia Dortmund – Cazorla And Sanchez Stars At Emirates

So after all the gloom and doom comes the ray of sunshine that we were all looking for. After back to back defeats in the Premier League at the hands of Swansea City and Manchester United, Arsenal finally produce that thumping display to outclass the German side comfortably. At no stage did the North London side look uncomfortable or shaky in this match and that by itself was a feat for the Gunners. Borussia Dortmund on the other hand were perhaps a touch complacent on the night given how they had already qualified for the knock out stages of the Champions League. Here at Soccersouls, we have come up with the Arsenal player ratings in their win against Borussia Dortmund.

Emiliano Martinez: 3/5 With both Wojciech Szczesny and David Ospina both out with injuries the responsibility fell on the young Argentine to stand in goal for Arsenal. To be honest, he did not have much to do all game, although he did make a big save towards the end of Adrian Ramos’ shot.

Calum Chambers: 3.5/5 The youngster did exceedingly well as he was not only solid in defence but was excellent while supporting the attack from the right hand side.

Per Mertesacker: 2.5/5 The only player on the night who was not perfect. A couple of his clearances could have been dangerous if the opposition could have shown more desire but all in a ll a cleansheet will give the German confidence.

Nacho Monreal: 3.5/5 The Spaniard played in the unfamiliar role of a centre back yet again and did very well as the Dortmund players really could not find a way past him.

Kieran Gibbs: 4/5 The young left back was fantastic on the night as he patrolled his defence brilliantly while going forward to support the attack from the left at every opportunity.

Mikel Arteta: 3.5 It is indeed a shame that the Arsenal captain had to go off at the 65th minute mark with an injury but for the time he played he was flawless, as he orchestrated almost everything good from the base of the midfield.

Aaron Ramsey: 3/5 Solid but not spectacular. Yet to find that magical form from last season.

Santi Cazorla: 4/5 A great game from the Spaniard finally as he took the place of Jack Wilshere’s in midfield. He was the creative fulcrum for the entire game and provided both assists.

Alex Oxlade Chamberlain: 3.5/5 Another very good game as the youngster is finally showing the world how good he will be in the future. A tad unlucky to hit the post and was full of life the entire game.

Alexis Sanchez: 4/5 The Chilean has been in supreme form this season and tonight was no different with Alexis Sanchez scoring a world class goal to seal the game for the North London side.

Yaya Sanogo: 3/5 All strikers will be judged by goals ultimately and the first Arsenal career goal must have been a relief for the youngster. However apart from the goal, he did not do that much before unfortunately going off with injury.

Subs:

Mathieu Flamini: 3/5 Solid and decent after coming on for the Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta.

Lukas Podolski: N/A

Joel Campbell: N/A
